“Paradise in the middle of the jungle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

I love this place! There is nothing more relaxing than sitting in the hammock on the deck of you floating room and watching the river running by with the beautiful green mountains in the background. We literally slept on the river, with the water flowing underneath the float and hearing nothing but the sound of the jungle. There is no electricity on the floats and I didn't miss it at all. It was so relaxing. A true back to the basics experience.

In the evening we had some cocktails in the also floating restaurant and they were great and very affordable. Dinner was included in our tour package and our tour guide even arranged separate delicious vegetarian dishes for me as well.

The whole resort is just wonderful as is the surrounding! We went for a stroll to the Mon village as well and I really enjoyed the calm atmosphere and experiencing the authentic culture there. During the day the village is a bit empty, because many of the inhabitants work on the rafts. However you will see kids playing - or going to the lovely school, which you can also visit.

My personal highlights: the elephants and the river jump(s)!
We saw the elephants bathing right next to the bridge from the rafts to the village and even got to touch them. On our way back one elephant was blocking the bridge with his trunk but could be convinced to move it with some fruits. :)
The river jump is another thing, you should definitely do! Put on a life jacket, walk all the way to the top of the rafts and jump in the river. It is so refreshing and fun. You just have to make sure you catch hold of the last ladder. :)

Loved it and hope I can go back there soon!

I had booked directly through the Jungle Rafts - their 3 day / 2 nights (much cheaper then what the Travel Agents charge). They are really easy to deal with no hassles, they picked up us from the Ambassador Hotel on time. This is the place to go after a week in the hassle and bustle of Bangkok. On the way to the Jungle Rafts we visited the War Memorial and the Bridge on the River Kwai, then we travelled by long boat to the Jungle Rafts where lunch was waiting for us. Once we settled into our room we visited Hellfire Pass for me this was very emotional also included was a cultural show and a visit to the Mon Village which is only a walk up the hill.

Don't expect electricity theirs none, cold showers but not too cold (refreshing), meals are prepare on the raft and are excellent - it was enjoyable just chilling out before we started the next stage of our holidays. The Kero Lanterns don't give off much light so if you have a torch in your phone use it.

A big Thanks to Sam who made our stay very memorable, his english was excellent and it was very interesting talking with him

After Hintok, we decided to go to this resort which is nearby. And everything was so amazing. The idea of no electricity served on board makes this place very unique.

At first we thought we might feel a little uncomfortable, but it turned out well. We had a chance to feel the sense of true nature, the real nature as if we lived in a different world.

The room was fantastic- clean and nice decoration. So for us who live in a big-busy city, this place has entirely weeded out our stress.

Also, the staffs were polite. The food was pretty good.

Overall, we love Jungle Raft and we cannot wait to go back there again next year!

I did the River Kwai Jungle Raft 2 nights with my partner. The rafts were very beautiful and romantic. The staff were all friendly and helpful but unfortunately most cannot speak English and the ones that do spoke limited English. This place has no electricity so watch out for cameras and phones that might require charging.
I found the place to have a very relaxed feel to it. In between tours, there is nothing for you to do except relax. You can get a massage, which will help pass some time. Or take a walk into the Mon village but there's not much to see. Or grab a vest and float down the river, as long as you don't think about what's in the water or let current take you. In saying all those things above I did enjoy my stay and did do all those things above.
Being of Asian decent I found the food boring as it was similar to what I ate everyday at home. They do not have choices so everyone staying on the resort ate the same dishes at around the same time everyday.
Our guide was very friendly and helpful but could have given us more details on some of the optional tours. As another couple and us missed out on some of the tours we would have enjoyed doing.
At night the staff turn on kerosene lamps which made the atmosphere turn from relaxing to very romantic. Especially when you sit on the deck chairs and watch the stars.
The place did have a smell to it which comes and go due to the lack of a toilet plumbing network. And I wonder where they get the shower water from? But in generally the room were clean and tidy.
In the end I did enjoy the trip and would recommend people trying it out.

Thank you for sharing your great experience to other readers and compliments to our hotel.

Thank you for pointing out about the re-charging your electricity devices. We actually recharge it for you on the shore where we have an electricity generator. We will collect your devices and tag your name/room before taking them up for re-charging. You may contact our Reception for this service.

In addition to your comment, the water you used for shower comes from the river which is pumped up to the international standard filtration process on the shore and then pump down to the rafts. For the toilet, we have a septic tank in place in every room.

Thank you very much for your recent stay and hope that we will have a chance to welcome you back again in the near future.

Kindest regards,

River Kwai Jungle Rafts

If you wait 4 Seasons service and butler on each corner - really don`t go there!.

If you have free mind and want to taste life without modern sounds, electricity, phone calls - it`s your place! This was my second time here and again just for 1 night, but pretty enough to enjoy this place!

Tip for night! If possible leave your big suitcase on transfer bus - take only hand baggage (you won`t need it). As there is no electricity and in rooms have small lamp, you won`t see normally anyway what to put there;)

Dinner is very good - Thai meals, breakfast is very basic, but enough.

Evenings are quiet, even if there is groups, because mostly persons want to be calm there and to enjoy the nature! and beautiful stars in the sky:)

Room Tip: ask for rooms what is situated down for river stream

Dear Guests,

Thank you for your recent stay with us and sharing your positive comments and for the tip proving to other travellers.

We would agree it is better off if you could carry only medium size backpack to our floating resort which would be more convenient while embarking the long-tailed boat.

However, our bellboys at the pier and at the resort usually carry them for you along the way. You do not really need to carry them at all. We do it all for you.

We really look forward to welcome you back to River Kwai Jungle Rafts once again in the near future.

Kindest regards,

River Kwai Resotel

Free transfer to the hotel by boat 10 mins worked up the anticipation unfortunately we were immediately irritated on arrival when the man booking us in sat us down in the restaurant and started trying to sell us tickets to the kids show/ mon village / massage rather than actually showing us to our room or explaining how the oil lamp worked which we has to do ourselves, the rooms are as expected very basic, the bathroom had a big Hole in one of the floorboards and I was worried I was going to trip in the night, no fans and only one lamp provided which does not give enough light to see by. Once we were settled we went out onto the deck area in front of our room to relax, my wife joined some of the other guests in walking to the far end of the rafts and jumping in the river and letting it carry you back to your deck - where their are steps- but be warned the current is very STRONG you need to be able to get yourself to the steps to get out , one guy missed the last steps and has to be rescued !! By the time dinner rolled around we were starving and slightly nervous about what we were going to be provided with- we neednt have worried the food was delicious and there was plenty of it- with 4 or5 dishes to share between the 2 of us and then we just chose more of what we liked, I agree with some other reviews that the kids who were serving didn't always take it seriously but they were never rude.
Overall it was a very different experience I thought the novelty and uniqueness of it was spoiled by the blatant attempts to prise more money from us and from the indifferent attitude to the guests by the staff. I felt as though I was an unconvenience to their daily life rather than a paying guest.
The floating resotel down river looked in better condition with more emphasis on the customer.

The location of these floating bungalows is exquisite. From the peace and quiet that surrounds you to the nicely designed bungalows complete with hanging garden its as tranquil as you can get. There is indeed no electricity although phones can be charged by generator between 6 - 9pm and there is no wifi. This can be a real blessing though if you want to escape it all.
Having traveled in Thailand for almost 6 months now I was disappointed by the food. Its served family style but the flavors are just not there. Its bland and plentifully so if thats your thing then perfect.
Plenty of activities are organized in the area and there is tons to explore so its a good base for Kanchanaburi if a little isolated.
The comments about the staff are pretty accurate. Many are young Mon tribe teenagers and like teenagers everywhere customer service is not exactly high on their agenda. There are some more experienced and helpful staff on hand so look for the grown ups they are usually more helpful but again not all of them are charm personified.
All in all this is a unique experience and i would recommend checking it out. Sleeping in the middle of the river on a raft is a wonderful experience and waking up to the sounds of elephants magical, just don't expect much from the food and service which in Thailand is a little surprising!
Bon Voyage
My Well Traveled Friend

Room Tip: Pick the end. These rooms are quieter as you have 1 less neighbor
