“Lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Having stayed at Pansand three times I have only good things to say about the resort and its staff. We have felt so welcome at every visit, and everyone there is so very polite and helpful.
Your choice of bungalow is all about what scene you prefer (beach front, overlooking the "garden" or close to the restaurant). They are all clean and well kept.
The small island of Ko Bulon is quiet and of no interest whatsoever for those seeking action, crowds or loud music. Special events are, like in many other places, arranged for Christmas and New Year's eve.
There are opportunities for small adventures exploring the island, whether that means walking across it or simply visiting areas of the beach which are inaccessible during high tide (there is a really cool area with awesome rocks, a few steps away from Pansand, which most visitors seem to miss). The beach has looked different every time we've visited due to the course of nature, but you shouldn't have a problem finding your favorite spot for snorkeling or sunbathing.
This is an island and a resort people seem to return to again and again. Hopefully, we will too.

I visited this resort situated on the charming island of Ko Bulone after many years from my first visit and I was very happy that almost nothing has changed. Ko Bulone is a place for those who like to spend quiet, lazy holiday in nature - away from the hustle and bustle, mass tourism, shopping, internet and other troublesome achievements of our civilization. On the island, nothing happens. Time flows lazily on reading books, contemplations, snorkling, relaxation, nice meals. Definitely not a place for people who are looking for the type of stimuli like discos, bars, attractions. Here there is nothing. Pansand offers simple but clean and comfortable bungalows. It is situated on a spacious, nicely arranged grounds. The beach is dotted with picturesque tree roots, rocks and trunks of palm trees. Another more sandy beach is literally 2 minutes away. The other recommended resort on Ko Bulone is Bulone Resort located next door and run by a friendly family. There is a restaurant where we ate dinner every night. Generally in Pansand there are more older people and couples without children and in Bulone Resort more families with young children. The island does not have an ATM but Bulone Resort can do cash back from credit card (they charge 6% commission). They have a small shop with basic things.

We stayed in a beach front hut with jungle behind and deserted white sand beach in front. Huts only have fans no air con but the fan is sufficient, also no electric during the day only between 6pm and 6am this way you can have the fan running all night. Free wifi in restaurant area. No ATM's on the island bring some cash for outside the resort but everything else including massages can be put to the room to pay on credit/debit card. Access to the island is by ferry or speed boat, no much difference in the cost so depends on how quickly you want to get there.

A must do is walk around the island until you find the Coconut Bar cool guy, cool music and perfect palce to stop for a beer after walking up the hill. Take deet spray because you are in the jungle and the mossie's are big!!!

The most relaxing island we came for 1 night stayed for 4 and even then didn't want to leave.

All staff are football fans either Liverpool or Man U so any games that you want to see follow the staff you will find them in the reception office around the TV :)

Room Tip: Rooms are all the same and all have sea views. No ATM's on island can put everything on your car...

I stayed for 6 nights and overall it was a very nice stay. basic bungalows with only cold water and fans and electricity only 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., but that's all good. very good restaurant and very friendly staff.
The beach is nice, but difficult to use bcs of big rocks in the water outside all of the resort. if you walk left from the resort towards the stranded container the beach is better.
A lot of interesting animals about - crabs of all sizes, lizards, frogs etc. Be careful if you walk around at night so you don't step on hermit crabs on the paved walkways.
I stayed for a few nights in a back row bungalow and a few nights at the L-bungalows closer to the beach. I did prefer the back row bungalow. Bigger, nicer and no nasty smells. The L-bungalows I stayed in smelled really bad.
To sum it up: a nice island, friendly people, very relaxed. Not for those who prefer perfection.

Room Tip: if you have the possibility, check your bungalow for bad smell first.

Staff at Pansand is smiling and efficient. The food served at the restaurant is high quality at standard price. Nice buffet breakfast is included in the room price which overall makes Pansand a cheaper solution compared to other resort having not breakfast included. you have no hot water and electricity from 6pm to 6am. bulgalow are spacious but very basic.
bring a lot of good repellent if you have problems with mosquito

Room Tip: second row bulgalows are next to the jungle. you migt have chance to meet interesting animals. first...

This resort clearly misses the attention to detail, which could make it perfect. They do repair and clean up things. But leave everything half finished. There is left over cement, building material around, piles of leaves are left, the wooden bridge almost dangerous. But should you complain about this in Asia in the price range?
Island is suffering by very bad erosion. This has led to small narrow beaches and loss of houses. Which they then clean up half. But the other resorts do the same thing...
Beach is still nice and white sand. Views are beautiful, but there is nothing to do here. So if you come to relax for a few days that is fine, but do not expect activities, party, exploring, etc

Value for money? The Cold water is a turn-off, but he, it is 30 degrees plus. We paid 1500 baht for the Laolieng room, we thought it was ok.

Staff is superfriendly and will do everything to help you. We took the snorkling tour (2000baht for the boat, to be shared with as many people you can find) which comes recommended for the beauty of the islands, but not really for the snorkling.

Room Tip: Laolieng is a bit further away but these houses are nicer than the ones closer to the beach.

This is paradise!

We have visited this beautiful island respectively in this resort for the third time now. The resort has everything you need to enjoy a perfect break-away from your daily routine. The staff is so friendly and helpful and will assist you with any wish or concern you have. The food is very delicious and for those who do not like authentic local dishes the resort offers some international food as well.

We always chose to book the beachfront bungalows because of the stunning sea view. You will find everything there you need for a vacation on this island. Certainly it is not materialistic luxury like a TV or anything else but you don’t need that at all. The island and the resort itself are very quiet. You won’t find locations to party every evening but will meet travellers who also appreciate the beauty of the island itself.

Ko Bulon Lae is not easy to access but in the past we have decided to spend some little extra money for a private car (Hat Yai airport to Pakbara Pier) and boat transfer to the island. On first glance this seems to be more expensive but in the end you pay this extra money to people who really need it. So we think it is worth it. Just ask the staff a few weeks prior to arrival.

If you do not need a 5-Star-Hotel, a disco or a TV but instead want to experience how luxurious simple life can be, then you should think about visiting Koh Bulon Lae and the Pansand Resort. The real luxury of this (not anymore secret) hideaway is that time doesn’t matter at all, the only constant things are sunrise and sunset as well as high tide and low tide.

And by the way, this is the perfect place to marry. Just tell the staff what you want (Thai or European style) and they will take care of everything. Inviting the staff and their families to your party is always a good option…
