“Unique secluded luxury beach getaway in Phang Nga”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013 via mobile

So happy that the chef was creative with glutenfree food options, as this is usually problematic when travelling in countries where this is not commonplace! Staff were courteous and always happy to try and please with a smile. Would definitely go back!

We had a fantastic 6 days at the Maikhao Dream Resort and Spa. Right from the time we reached the hotel till the time we left, we were taken care of very personally by the staff, at the reception, at the restaurants. In particular, the Front Office Manager, Pornthip and her team welcomed us and helped us organize various day trips while we were there. We felt very much at home and welcomed at the resort. The pool is amazing. The restaurant is good and we were served very graciously. In short, we had a relaxing holiday at the Maikhao Dream Resort and Spa

Just returned from 7 night stay at Maikhao Dream Resort and Spa. My wife and I needed a relaxing holiday and break since our last visit to Phuket 21 years ago.( honeymoon )
MyThailand holidays advertised Maikhao in the Adelaide papers so we decided to try it out.
It was a dream come true !!! Absolutely "spoiled " during the whole stay. Just what we wanted for a relaxing holiday. The facilities were amazing--beach fantastic and secluded--very very friendly staff--excellent meals and reasonable price,
Had a great experience with the eco-tour run by staff where we did kayaking--wonderful lunch--bike ride to local fishing village and organic farm ( supply fresh fruit and vegetables to resort )--trip to waterfall and temple plus a wonderful thai massage and complimentary drink to finish off the day.
Our room was absolutely fantastic with personal pool and spa plus very spacious and very well serviced every day.
An invite to general managers cocktail evening was a very pleasant surprise and the sunset from the bar was to die for.
In summary---if you want a relaxing holiday--want to be spoiled--away from mad crowds--enjoy excellent facilities then this is the place to go.... Thanks My Thailand Holidays for advertising Maikhao Dream Resort we are planning a return visit next year.

Room Tip: Go for a pool terrace room ( couples ) Excellent family garden rooms as well.

We stayed her for 2 nights, a very nice property and hotel with beautiful beach front access. Our basic room was clean and lovely, and the property is beautiful and exactly as pictured online. Service was good. My only complaint is the whole place was empty, I am talking only 3-4 other guests there along with us. Kind of creepy, but great if you love the privacy. The main Thai restaurant and rooftop bar were closed "for renovations" while we were there, although no visible work was being done, they were just locked up. I suspect they can't afford to keep it open with so few guests. The remote location meant we were limited to eating at the one other restaurant on property for all meals, not much variety there. We walked down the beach to the local Thai restaurant for dinner as others had recommended, and had a great meal on the beach in a very casual and clearly local spot. If the place were operating at a more normal and bustling pace, this would be a great hotel. Worth a try if you don't like crowds and prefer a smaller hotel.

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms will have a beach view, ground floor rooms won't be able to see it through the...

We had a three day break planned as part of a 3 week trip to Thailand and we were excited by the prospect of staying at the Maikhao Dream resort. But it turned out to be a big disappointment, mainly due to the shocking standard of service, which is well below our previous experiences in the Far East and a long way off what would be required at a 5 star resort.

It started well enough, an efficient transfer from the airport in a 7 series BMW and a warm welcome at reception.

Then it started to go pear shaped.

Our room was unacceptable. A strong sewerage smell from the bathroom, a faulty safe, An unstocked mini bar, no toiletries and no table and chairs on the balcony. Hardly ready for a new guest and no one has signed this room off as acceptable to allocate.

I made my way back to reception and to be fair, the front of house manageress ( who was excellent throughout our stay), came back with me, apologised and quickly arranged to move rooms to an upgraded pool villa. (I got the impression that this wasn't a one off and recent TA reviews confirm my suspicions)

But the rest of our stay was just disappointment after disappointment. As per previous recent reviewers, service at breakfast and lunch was appalling. No eye contact from staff, no awareness that we were even there. Constantly having to ask for standard things like a pot of tea, etc. No one attending the pool bar.

I have never witnessed such a set of unmotivated staff in all my travels. What is going on here?

If it wasn't for the efficient front of house manager and her team, and the beauty of the location and well kept gardens this would be a one star review.

What a sad state of affairs the Maikhao Dream is in. As others have said, you do hope they can sort it out.

Avoid until they get their act together.

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby. We were collected from the airport in a very comfortable car and transported to the hotel very efficiently. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. We were shown to our room but discovered that both the safety deposit box and the fridge were not working. After several visits to reception-noone understood us on the telephone, they eventually replaced the safety deposit box. We waited 25 minutes for our luggage-not good in a resort of only 52 rooms!
The place is picturesque with a beautiful beach and gardens. Unfortunately the pool was not chilled and so was warm to get in to. We sat by the pool bar for quite a while as the service was so poor and were disgusted to find scum marks around our waists as we got out because the pool was so dirty. It was no better the next morning so we did not use the pool again at all.
The restaurants were expensive and food only average. Luckily we discovered a quaint little restaurant up the beach which served Thai food of a decent quality and decent prices.
Breakfast was a shambles. The staff were very inattentive and every morning we had to go to get tea/coffee as we were never asked if we wanted anything. The choice was poor and quality not what is expected of a 5* resort.
Our room was a garden room which was pleasant and spacious but for 3 days we had no hand towels as the maid told us they had none left. We also had to ask for our room to be made up as at 3pm, no-one had been to do it.
I went to the spa which was very expensive and only adequate although the staff were very friendly.
This resort could be sublime but it needs a shake up to put it in the category it aspires to be in. The staff were pleasant but lacking in expertise-especially the waiting staff around the pool/beach who had to be searched for in order to order food or drinks.
We had such high expectations but sadly this did not meet them. If we had not been attending a wedding, we would have checked out and moved to another hotel

Room Tip: A room away from the building site on one side of the hotel

The good bits first. The food was very good. The Thai buffet was exceptionally good. The chef, Asteray from Galicia in Northern Spain, was very helpful and cooked many dishes off menu on request. He also came out regularly to the restaurant areas and assisting in ordering food and handling requests.
The bad bits. Many of the restaurant staff had difficulty communicating in English. They also were in need of training. At breakfast (buffet style) it was necessary to call the waiter to order coffee. They should really be watching and offering service. Coffee on many occasions was cold. At lunch many orders took a long time. One dessert dish took half an hour to arrive. Seems to be a disconnect between the kirchen and the waiters. Catching waiters attention was also an issue. Noticed that they only have four baby chairs. Once a group with four baby/toddlers arrive you have no choice but to manage your toddler in a regular chair. Very challenging at times.

Pool service not very good and takes a long time. Waiter also presented two bills to be signed, one of which was someone else's. Overall it was fine but what a good place it could be if there were good restaurant staff. The GM and Head Chef certainly have their work cut out for them.

Room Tip: Try for a room on the right hand side when facing the sea.
