“Very interesting cooking course”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2015

We stayed in this lodge during our 5 days trek (you can read my main review about it at Lisu lodge). We enjoyed our cooking lessons. Now I have a better understanding about the thai cooking and I will try it at home.
We also enjoy our morning biking trip to 2 small markets. The rural life overthere seems very peaceful.
The garden has many varieties, I liked to see them.

No TV, no Internet, but you do not miss it at all. Nice place, charming, nicely maintained, a mix of back to nature and very charming rooms (do not expect 5 star accommodation, but that's not the concept here)
The cooking lessons, the herb massage and the afternoon and early morning cycling are highly recommended, but are optional if you just want to enjoy the place itself. Nice outdoor lounge to relax, zip a cup of tea or coffee, read a book or close your eyes
Friendly staff, great place to spend a night or two-three…

The first time in Khum Lanna and we really enjoyed our stay ! No TV, no wifi, nothing else than nature and real Thai life !
Everybody is always so kind and helpful...
The local market was also a great experience.
We will for sure recommend this place to all of our friends !

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

Not just a lodge, more a complete N Thailand experience, our stay was made by the ever smiling Sai, Pat and Kaew and her team in the kitchen. The lodge itself is charming, with very spacious rooms, however it's what's outside that makes Khum Lanna such a gem. Local bike rides around the surrounding villages and farmlands (we only got slightly lost!) market visits, heated herbal massage and the truly excellent onsite cooking school. I have done numerous cooking classes in Asia and this was amongst my favourite due the lovely herb gardens and enthusiastic team who were happy to adapt the dishes being cooked to traditional northern style when asked as we were the only guests that day.

We arrived at Khum Lana somewhat tired from a day walking and then time traveling. They made us feel really welcome and delayed the start of the cooking class to give us the opportunity to shower and freshen-up.
Khum Lana is a converted rich man's house with 10 rooms (for wives and concubines) set around a common open communal area. The construction is wood on raised pillars using traditional furniture located in large gardens to give a very pleasant and unique environment. Lovely.
The highlight of the stay was an evening Thai cooking class followed by a pleasant evening eating your own food (naturally the best Thai food that we had eaten in 2 weeks!).
The restaurant is set apart from the accommodation and has a real sense of grandure.
The hotel has bicycles that enable you to visit the pleasant local town (15minutes ride).
This was a great stay and we were sorry not to be able to stay longer.
Don't miss.

Room Tip: The outside rooms are larger, but you don't really need the space.
