My wife and I took a break from our London vacation to travel south by train to the British Wildlife Centre in Lingfield, about an hours' journey. Getting there requires a short taxi ride from the train station. There is an interesting story behind how the Centre came to be. Owner David Mills turned his dairy farm into a wildlife preserve for many animals native to Great Britain. In spite of visiting on a cold day with an occasional snow flurry floating about, seeing red squirrels, miniature deer, badgers, hedgehogs and birds, among other unique animals was well worth braving the weather. Knowledgeable staff provided insight about the animals and preserve. The facility offers food and drink as well as a souvenir shop. A train from Victoria Station, taxi and price of admission to the Centre are all reasonable. We had the unexpected pleasure of running into David Mills, who graciously visited with us at length. A great experience for children and adults. There is a video available about the Centre.
