“great place to enjoy a weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

All of the staff showed a wonderful commitment to making sure that as guests enjoying a wedding anniversary we had a wonderful stay, but in particular, the younger members of staff demonstrated an empathy towards customer service that was exemplary, and made our stay a delight! It also helped that the food was of the highest standard and presentation, and the Shibden ale was well appreciated! Highly recommend for a visit if you’re in the area, whether you can stay for a night or not..

We stayed with friends under the 'Romance & Celebration' offer to celebrate our wedding anniversary which proved to be such exceptional value for money that I wouldn't need the excuse of a special occasion to stay again. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the rooms (whilst compact) were beautifully and thoughtfully equipped and with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The lovely beer garden was great for pre-dinner drinks on a Summers evening. Dinner was divine - all four of us were delighted with our individual courses - I started with the scallops which were delicious and followed with venison which was cooked to perfection and served with tasty if somewhat unusual sides (pate in a jar!). My husband was thrilled with the mixed grill as were our friends with their choices of rabbit and steak respectively. The two guys decided to outface themselves with the largest desserts I have ever seen - basically mini portions of most of the desserts on the menu served on a large slate. I settled for the chocolate fondant, which needed a little something with it to cut through the richness, but on request our waitress immediately produced a scoop of ice cream - problem solved. My friend's gooseberry crumble was also declared a winner. From the homemade muesli to the full English Breakfast served next morning with a smile and friendly conversation the whole Shibden Mill experience was fantastic and we can't wait to go again.

We've just returned from a blissful weekend at Shibden Mill Inn. As a first weekend away from our 17 month old we wanted somewhere where we could just relax and unwind - and at Shibden we did just that. The attention to detail, tranquil setting, yummy food, cosy bedrooms, the smell of lavender, and fantastic service made this a perfect venue for us to just enjoy spending some time together. We would definitely return.

Just returned from a two night stay, we had two delightful rooms, beautifully appointed with every detail taken care of. The breakfasts and dinner were to die for with plenty of choice and very sensible portions; the wine list is surprisingly good. The home-made produce, (Jam, black pudding, muesil etc.) are for sale to bring home. There is a very spacious outside seating area and the staff could not be more welcoming. Room 11 bed is one of the most comfortable I've slept in...
Hope to return soon...

Lovely rural setting with plenty of outside seating to have your drinks, lunch or afternoon tea. We visited for evening meal and wasn't disappointed ! Fantastic menu choice, great service, setting and food! We will definitely be returning to this "Hidden Gem".. Just don't tell too many people about it! Loved it!

I've stayed here a few times now and it is definitely the best spot in Halifax in my opinion. The drawbacks are that it is quite busy with non residents as it's a public house, however that gives it atmosphere so you have to balance that out!
I had a pleasant welcome at check in and as I knew where my room was went straight up to it (not many rooms so much better than a chain hotel), my room was small but comfortable. Bathroom and bedroom clean and tidy and everything I needed was provided though on this occasion free wifi was only working downstairs, not the end of the World! I would say that bathroom was looking a little dated with pink tiles but it was still fine.
I had a few drinks there of the excellent Shibden beer, and also ate there. The food was average and well presented though I did feel was a little overpriced when I compare to similar hotels I stay at across the country though please don't let that put you off there were some deals!
Breakfast was very civilised and pretty good, service spot on as it was at dinner.
Overall a great little spot, excellent staff and would absolutely recommend to stay or dine at. Well done!

Room Tip: I've stayed in 3 different rooms and they have all been good, if you require a larger double roo...

Not the easiest place to find - but well worth it! On the hottest day of the year, the welcome was equally warm and we were greeted with a room upgrade, and two gin and tonics brought to our patio. This superior ground floor room (No 3) is spacious and beautifully appointed, with a huge flat-screen TV and DVD player, excellent bed and good wardrobe/drawer space. The large bathroom with roll-top bath has only a hand shower, so if you prefer a full shower, ask for another room. The half-board deal is expensive, but excellent value. At dinner you get a glass of wine included and you can choose anything from the a la carte menu. The cuisine is exceptional, each dish well balanced and skillfully executed, with an emphasis on local produce. Similarly, the breakfast is freshly cooked, with many unusual items such a Welsh rarebit and four types of eggs Benedict! Service is exemplary - informal, friendly, but ruthlessly efficient. This is a gem of a hotel in a lovely location.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room if you can afford it!
