“Poor, waste of money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2010

I´ve been there with my wife and child (11) for 3 nights.

room cleanness was average

hotel staff does not know what to do.; must be trained again, if they were once

meals are terrible, no variety

dinner is not served at the hotel; only hotdogs and other stuffs that must be payed apart

hot park is average

conclusion : if you have the money to go to this hotel, choose another one or another destination (there´s nothing to do there out of the park)

My boyfriend and I paid a lot of money to stay here at this "all-inclusive" resort (R$1500 [reais]), and we were expecting something fairly decent. When we arrived, the taxi had to drop us off halfway around the block because there were families flooding in, out, and around the hotel.

In the lobby, there was a mile-long line of people trying to check out (an hour after checkout time), and another mile-long group of families sitting around on the floor of the lobby and flooding out to the front of the hotel waiting for shuttles to bring them to the hot park. They can't even come up with some benches for people to wait for the bus?!

Checking in took forever, and was a nightmare. The first 30 or so parties in line were turned around because their rooms weren't ready yet. I think every child in Brasil was in that sweaty lobby all at once.

We were told our room was a 4-person suite. I guess two people are meant to sleep on the couch's twin foldout. The hotel couldn't even shell out to offer complimentary shampoo. The only item they left for guests was a crappy 1/8-sized bar of soap.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (including "drinks") was included in our package. We were forced to eat the breakfast and lunch buffets at Giardino, and those meals were absolutely inedible. We ate beans and rice, and watermelon for every meal (wow, that sure was worth the extra R$200 for meals). We stopped at the hotel restaurant for dinner, but were turned around and told we had to take the bus to Hotel Pousada for dinner; however, if we wanted to pay R$16, we could eat at Giardino. What?! At least the dinner brunch at Pousada was edible 1 out of 3 nights; however, Pousada's meals were also a buffet-style circus act due to the thousands of people (and their millions of kids) crammed into the restaurant. Amongst this chaos, only alcohol could make us feel better about all this money gone to waste; unfortunately the only drinks offered at meals were Brahma dark and Brahma light, and the single most cheap and disgustingly toxic Cachaca in Brazil.

The hot park didn't make up for it; there were only 3 water slides open (out of the 5 they normally have -- wow big deal!). The only thing about the entire Rio Quente resort that we enjoyed was the "natural" hot spring portion, which only allowed resort guests admission. I use the word natural somewhat lightly, as the resort has done whatever they could to butcher the natural qualities of the hot springs, adding obviously manmade waterfalls and caves, and other bastardizations such as really bad techno music playing at night. However, on the bright side, even this low-class stingy resort couldn't truly mess up something as nice as the natural hot spring pools; if it hadn't been for our relaxing times in the warm pools, we probably would have caused a major scene at the resort offices, demanded our money back, etc.

I'm sure this hotel and resort would be passable if you're a family with younger kids. But keep in mind that the hotel is worse than a HoJo, and the water park is laughable in comparison with the water parks elsewhere in the world.
