Owner description: This fairy tale castle looks down majestically across the Alsace plain for more then 850 years. Towering at 757 m over picture perfect villages and colourful vineyards, it is one of France's most widely visited castles. Restored in the early 20th century, its current state reflects how it looked in the 15th century. Passing the main gate of the impressive Haut-Koenigsbourg is to enter the medieval world. An enjoyable and breathtaking experience!

“visit to Chateau”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Went to above on a very cold December morning from Strasbourg and is stunning location sitting at 800 metres on top of hill.
Roads were very twisty and coach driver did job very well.
Excellent guide then took us on a 90 minute tour of building.
Clear sunny day and we were able to see in the distance Black Forest and other mountains around us.
Afterwards all popped into the excellent cafe where good quality snacks and drinks were on offer.
Do wrap up warm as at that altitude in December no heating whatsoever is installed.
There are by the way about 200 steps involved-gentle but no choice.

“A magical experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Three generations visited the Castle at the end of October when there had been a fall of snow - providing icing on the cake. The valleys were wreathed in low cloud under blue skies; the trees in autumn colours were dressed in white. Restoration of historical buildings is controversial, but here it shows what living in such surroundings would have been like. A wide selection of good food was available.

“Pretty!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Really nice views! It is a good way of spending a day. On the way, you'll see the vineyards. You could enjoy their wine before or after your visit to the castle. Small town and very pretty. Don't go too early or you'll end up parking you car very far! Go during noon time or later! An hour is enough for your visit. They do have a store and a place for refreshments, sodas and ice cream among other.

“Lovely walk, great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

We hiked from Thannenkirch, over a nice and reasonably signposted forest path. (This is much more than an hour, even if the nice people at the Ribeauville tourist office tell you so). The castle is beautifully renovated, with interesting information about the late-19c rebuilding. Great panoramic views.

“Fun for kids of all ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

The curving drive up to the castle and then the gorgeous view of the valley add to the allure of this castle tour. The restoration work here took years to accomplish and it is easy to see why. It's fun to be able to explore this building from top to bottom. The cafe has some good choices if you need a bite to eat, otherwise, snack options from the cart just out front work well, too.
