“Excellent and friendly Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2011

Room was very comfortable and clean.
Dinner and breakfast was excellent. It was authentic and very delicious.
Owner & Hosts were very kind and friendly. On reserving by internet, we exchanged e-mails. They responded to my question immediately and also made much advice about the tour of Kauri Forest.
And Owner & Hosts were very friendly. After dinner, my wife and I had amusing talk with them.
We stayed as if we were at my friend's house, who were our old friends.
We stayed only one night, but next time we wish to stay this lodge more and more.

The Lodge was easy to find after follwoing the excellent directions, with a warm and friendly welcome. Additional items were in room as requested. Room was well furnished, warm and comfortable. The dinner service was impeccable with excellent food and wine. The breakfast was perfect; not too big nor too small. The highlight was the personal touches and little extras that made our stay memorable.

The friendly personal welcome on arrival set the scene for a wonderful experience at Waipoua Lodge. Our accomodation inThe 'Calf Pen' suite was luxurious. The attention to detail in the furnshings and provisions made it even more special. The menu was was varied and interesting and the food at all the meals was superb. For a small Lodge the wine list was extensive. Waipoua Lodge is a great place to stay on the way along the Kauri Coast. Fran and Ian were outstanding hosts. We left wishing we could stay longer. It was the highlight of our trip to NZ. It will definitely be a place we will return to on our next visit to the North Island.

My daughter and I had a wonderful two night stay and loved every minute of it. The host, Fran and Ian, went the extra mile on every little detail of our stay. Both the dinners and the breakfast are worth the visit alone. And the historic house is a great setting for enjoying this surprise high end B&B! Highly recommend!

We support all the positive comments of previous reviewers. Waipoua Lodge offers excellent accommodation and meals with delightful hosts.

We were a party of two 60+ couples and we booked the Woolshed and the Stables - good choice for our circumstances. Accommodation charges are on the upper side of average by current NZ standards but the dinner package is outstanding in both quality and value (there's nowhere else to eat anyway!). Ian's wine stock is reasonably priced and well thought out - no need to bring your own. And Fran really is a great chef.

Note that the Lodge is not inside the forest - it's 2k outside the forest. However, there's a remnant sub-tropical rainforest on the property which you can wander through.

This whole area is relatively undiscovered by international tourists - highly recommended.
