Booked this accommodation after a depressing 'trawl' of the hotels available in Boulogne-sur-Mer for a weekend stay. I was attracted to the location ( just outside Boulogne ) and its position ( on a cliff overlooking the beach ), reviews I'd read elsewhere were favourable and I was encouraged by the fact that it was small and family run.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Jeanne and Gerard who treated us like old friends and continued to do so throughout our stay, although Gerard's English was limited and Jeanne's non-existant this didn't bother us as it gave us an opportunity to practice our French...........suffice to say, we got by. Our room was spacious and very clean and tidy although, I have to say, we were a little disappointed that the balcony advertised did not exist. Gerard explained that this was an error by the agents advertising the B&B and was very apologetic.......we could not take exception as we had an excellent view of the sea and beach from our window anyway. Two other aspects of the room were that there was no facility to make tea or coffee, which we expected, and that the shower room/toilet was not a separate room but occupied one corner of our bedroom with a partition but no door............a little awkward if one likes to be private about one's toiletry requirements but, it didn't bother us.
Having said all the above, what really sells the place is the warm and genuine hospitality and the location, Jeanne was more than happy to fill our thermos with coffee for us to use in the mornings and gave us another on our departure, the breakfasts were more than adequate and comprised croissants, home-made jams, pain a chocolate, coffee, bread and cheeses and the piece-de-resistance, Gerard's freshly made crepes.......delicious. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was a joy to drop off to sleep with the sound of the waves crashing on the beach below.
I would have no hesitation in either revisiting this establishment our recommending it to others.....it was an extremely relaxing and pleasurable stay.
