It is a lovely hotel in a quiet location and the staff are fantastic, very friendly and extremely helpful. It has a beautiful garden and an excellent swimming pool. The rooms are basic but are clean and comfortable. Perfect for a short visit.
There some downsides. I'm noting them, not to put you off from staying there because it truly is a lovely hotel, but so you are aware that even in paradise nothing is perfect!
1. The rooms, while clean and comfortable, are looking very tired decor wise.
2. You won't have a relaxing meal in the restaurant as it is very noisy. It has a high ceiling and hard floors with no soft furnishings (wall hangings, rugs, curtains etc) to help absorb any sound. As a consequence other people's conversations (and yours), cutlery chinking on plates or chair scrapes on the hard floor etc. echo loudly around the room. Eat there but don't linger!
3. It is not near Kovalam!. Kovalam, with it's great beaches, shops and restaurants, is a half hour drive from the Harmonia. However you can get a rickshaw or a taxi quite easily. You can also catch a bus into the city of Trivandrum (takes an hour) as a bus stops near the hotel in the morning. However, it is very naughty of the hotel to say it's in Kovalam or near Kovalam. It's a great location if you want a quiet holiday in an isolated location but the hotel marketing information should be clearer. In fact its quiet location could be a good selling point for people who want a quieter more relaxing location. People who want a more lively holiday will be disappointed and may feel misled if they stay there and could end up writing bad reviews! Better to be honest! And the nearby beach looks lovely but you wouldn't want to go swimming there. Stick to the pool. The beach is good for walking however.
4. There is wi-fi but, whereas most hotels nowadays provide it free to their guests, you have to pay for it here. Small point perhaps but it all adds up.
Please note, I don't believe any of my 'downside' comments can be improved by the staff at the hotel. A little attention, no more than that, is required from the owners of the Abad Group.
Would I stay there again? Yes, definitely, but not for 2 weeks!
