“Great value in the apartments, excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

Our family of 5 spent 4 nights in a two-bedroom apartment. It was splendid with the amount of space we had: sprawling living room, eat-in kitchen, two huge bedrooms and a very large bathroom (even has a lounge chair and coffee table).

Kitchen was very well equipped with even a blender, dishwasher, etc. Although the hotel restaurant serves pretty decent food at reasonable rates, we treasure the opportunity to cook ourselves.

Location is excellent, just a short drive from Keswick town with great shops, bakery, restaurants and supermarkets. Hotel has a nice garden, beyond which within a 5 minute stroll is the lake itself. Very picturesque.

Best part is the service. Receptionist is very helpful. When I inquired the time it takes to drive to Heathrow, next time I saw him he gave me printed directions from Google Map. Called him re. minor issues with the apartment (light bulbs broken) and they were solved the following day.

I don't understand why this ranks last among the hotels in Keswick, but I think this offers excellent value for money!

It was a special break for us and we decided to upgrade to a Superior Room with a Lake View ROOM 102.... very disappointing, the lake view was virtually non-existant obscured by two trees and the roof of the bungalow. The wardrobe/cupboard was in the corner of the room, the interior was black, and we had to move the chairs and table to access it. The bathroom had nowhere to put toiletries, had to use the floor and the toilet lid.
However; apart from the disappointment of the room, we enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is in a brilliant location, and the food was good. The young man behind the bar (from Tenerife) was really pleasant and helpful. The gardens are lovely, and there is a nice walk to the edge of the lake.
We would return, but would not upgrade to a Superior Room.

Our first visit to the Derwent Manor Apartments owned by and close to the Derwentwater Hotel. Due to maintenance problems with the Apartment we had booked for 3 nights, we asked if we could change to another. Anthony on reception was really helpful with this. The replacement apartment was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed except a toaster! The staff we encountered in the Derwentwater Hotel were friendly and polite and answered any queries we had. The fantastic weather made our stay most enjoyable.

We have just stayed at the Derwentwater Hotel , I can only say it was excellent from start to finish ,the room we were allocated was the Ruskin Suite which was really comfortable, the food and friendliness of all staff was first class, the bar/conservatory is a very comfortable and relaxing area to unwind after a day’s walking and eating a fine meal and bottle of wine. The only down point we found was the small TV in the bedroom (minor point). We shall defiantly stay again.

We were met by possibly the most disinterested receptionist we have ever net- no welcome and even though I told her that I had an elderly woman waiting in a hot car we were told we would have to wait 20 minutes before someone could show us to our ( un signed) appartment. I explained that we would prefer a ground floor as mother-in- law foibd staits difficult-When we did eventually find it it was dark, ditty and damp with paper peeling off the ceiling- when we asked to be moved went through a charade of being directed
to one that was equly dark and Di gy with a hole in the bedroom wall where we had to spend the night as the other ( tiny) one wasn't made up - something the receptionist ( allegedly) knew nothing about. Terrible stay on all levels
Pm 3 floors(!)

first the good bits....the setting of this hotel is stunning ,lawned gardens overlooked by a stylish and spacious conservatory. a walk from here takes you down to the lakeside through woodland and an SSSI abundant with wlidlife . ten out of ten so far !
now the not so good ... Our room(204) rated as "superior" was nothing special and bizarrely had the bathroom in an odd position beside the window thus restricting the wonderful view and blocking the light from the rest of the room. I can only assume that there must have been a reason for this arrangement. As someone else said the general appearance on the upper floors is a little worn but it looks like the place is gradually being redecorated. Food, again nothing special, but very good value I guess.
So overall a disappointing stay. It does seem to appeal more to older people...I would say while we were there most of the other guests were rather elderly which gave the place an odd atmosphere..... sorry to say that, but a range of ages would seem more pleasing.
