“The restaurant is excellent...the rooms are not”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

At $135 a night, our bed was uncomfortable, we didn't have any view from our window, no television, no alarm clock...not even a hair dryer. The walls are super thin, and we heard everything our neighbours said both at night (ahem) and in the morning. We stayed in Room #7.

Despite it being a beautiful day/evening, the pool closed at 6PM. At 5:50 someone came out to tell us it was closing...why? There was still sun and it was warm. There was no issue of a lifeguard being on duty. It was inconvenient, and unfortunate.

It is NOT on the lake-the lake is not even visible. You have to cross the street, walk down another small street, and you arrive at a dock the inn shares with others. If you want to use the canoe they have available, get in line. There is only one.

The restaurant was excellent. Don't bother considering the Table d'hôte, however. All it saves you is the price of a cup of coffee. We had terrine of elk, and cornish game hen on a corn pancake. Both very tasty. The duck we had for a main course was a little dry, but the sauce served with it was excellent.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Inn. I’m very sorry your stay was not up to your expectations; we take your comments seriously in order to improve our clients stay.

Your comments prompted us to verify the bed and the situation has been corrected. All rooms have a private bathroom and are equipped with an alarm clock, armchair and have air conditioning and free Wi-Fi (hair dryers available on request). The Joli Vent is an old century Inn with cracking floors and a lot of history. Our clientele is very respectful and quiet, there is not much noise going around after 10 at night.

In addition, there are many common areas including a TV room with flat screen, a cosy library with books and games, two additional sitting areas and a bar. The Inn also features nice gardens with a lot of place to sit back and relax, a 23 m long pool open from 8 am to 6 pm (opening hours are determined by the hours our staff can assure proper surveillance, as required by law, which gives 7 hours to enjoy the pool during a one day stay). We do not advertise being on the Lake or having a lake view but an access to Brome Lake including a canoe. Unfortunately, on the day of your stay, the canoe was extremely popular, four couples asked for the canoe within a 45 minutes time period, three of them did in deed use the canoe that morning before the end of their stay, I’m very sorry that you did not get a chance to enjoy the canoe.

Room rates includes a full breakfast with fresh fruit, homemade muffins, warm croissants, cheese, yogourts, cereals as well as a hot breakfast à la carte with eggs, meat, French toast which we sell for $ 15 to outside guests. The breakfast is often a highlight of our guests stay, as you can read in other comments.

We are happy you enjoyed your dinner at the Inn.

Regards,

Patricia Provencher and Hans Christiner

I wanted to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday in a special way. A work colleague mentionned the Auberge as she was married there several years ago on their beautifully landcaped grounds. As soon as we arrived, we fell in love with the inn. I then told my husband his gift was not just a stay at the inn but a tour of a local winery, a gastronomic four course meal cooked and served at the inn by the owners Chef Hans and his wife Patricia. The next morning's breakfast was also a delicious treat. The rooms had the character of an old country inn; comfortable and relaxing. A definite return to the auberge in future trips to the Eastern Townships.

It is a beautifully kept, comfortable, small inn that is located in the picturesque Eastern Townships (Cantons Est). An added bonus is a terrific on site restaurant that is open for breakfast and dinner (dinner only on Fridays and Saturdays). Chef serves the finest cuisine in the area using local, fresh ingredients and they have well chosen wine list. We look forward to our next stay!

We stayed a few days last Sept. at the Auberge au Joli Vent and found it more than pleasant. We had searched for inns in the Knowlton area and found that this one met our needs.
The accommodations were clean, comfortable and homey. The room was somewhat small and would have been confining had the inn itself not been so large and inviting with library, tv room, bar and dining room as well as a large area for strolling or hiking.
Breakfast was unbelievably delicious and plentiful and it hurt us to turn away such excellent food because we were full. We regretted not being able to enjoy the dinners because they weren't served during our stay.
We enjoyed our conversations with the owners who were very friendly and went "above and beyond" in meeting our needs.
The Inn is a super location from which to explore the entire area and to return at night.

Room Tip: Make sure to walk on the grounds during your stay!

My husband and I went there for our 7th wedding anniversary. It was positive from then moment we got there. We were warmly greeted and shown around. We were even walked to our room. The food was exceptional. The portions are very generous and delicious. We could barely move when we were done. The service #1. The room was very quaint and cozy. The walls are a bit thin and you can hear the people next to you but we were so enchanted with the whole place it didn't bother us. We saw the staff cleaning frequently. Vacuming and washing walls etc...The property is very large and you can go for a long walk on very well kept trails. We even saw a deer and a partridge.
Breakfast was yummy with a huge plate of regional cheese in the cold buffet. We were told not to eat too much because we got a hot breakfast too!
Do not think twice about this auberge. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

stopped at l'auberge du joli vent after a long bicycle ride. i knew from the inviting lushness of the grounds that this was the place i wanted to be. the innkeepers, patricia and husband are most friendly and accommodating, calling ahead to make reservations for us for the following night, recommending dining spots and bike routes. my room was clean and inviting with french provincial touches. breakfast included meats, cheeses, fruit, yogurt, muffins and breads...very european and delicious. the gardens and pool area are breathtaking. stop for yourself and see!

The information center in Sutton recommended this B&B for our traveling route and it was perfect. Patricia was such a pleasant and friendly host and went over the top to help us with finding a place for the next night's accomendations.
