Owner description: With 1,200 different animals from over 160 species, the 1.7-million-square-metre Perth Zoo dates all the way back to 1898 and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors year on year. Holidaymakers flock here to admire the local wildlife they can learn so much about, alongside a range of other exhibits demonstrating species from four different continents around the world.Check out the Australian Bushwalk section for a fascinating insight into the region’s wildlife. With marsupials such as koalas, red kangaroos, wallabies and wombats, not to mention amazing Tasmanian devils, there are plenty of animals to see and admire. In the Australian Wetlands section you can spot local birds, crocodiles, frogs and tortoises before heading to Nocturnal House to see spiders, reptiles, birds and much more.Explore the Reptile Encounter to see native snakes, lizards and turtles, before checking out the Penguin Plunge and its 50,000-litre pool and its reefs, beaches and plant life. Elsewhere you’ll find the African Savannah where you can feed giraffes as well as see the rhinos and lions along with the hyenas, cheetahs and baboons. In the Animals of the Americas section you’ll get to see a rare Galapagos tortoise along with the marmosets, alligators and macaws. In the Asian Rainforest there are orang-utans, sun bears and Komodo dragons along with towering Asian elephants.Make sure you spend some time with the zoo’s botanic collection, with incredible plants from across the country, including everything from roses to huge palm trees.Located in the south of Perth just over three kilometres from the city centre, the Perth Zoo is open every day including major holidays. If you’re coming by car, you’ll have to pay to park in the nearby streets. Public transport is also available; you can board the ferry to Mends Street Jetty too. Under-16s can enter for half the price.

So much to see and do here that it takes a whole day. Great value for money. Loved the penguin show and the elephant walks.

“A wonderful half day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Be it adults or families, the Perth Zoo is a MUST.
Carefully laid out, all the animals, birds etc have plenty of space and effort has been taken to portay their natural surroundings. There is so much to see that frequent visits to the cafeteria were necessary to keep hydrated.
There are toilets on site and everywhere is wheelchair friendly.
My grandchildren particularly liked the crocodile, the meerkats and the tame elephant which was led along the walkways.
All the marsupials are present as are many brightly coloured parrots and cockateels.
There is also a small amusement park.

“A nice half day outing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

We visit the Perth zoo at least twice a year with our kids. It is a fairly large and well planned zoo with some excellent exhibits such as the wetlands/bird enclosure. For tourists wanting to see kangaroos you can walk through an enclosed area with kangaroos inside. Don't expect too much from them though as they sleep almost all day! There are also koalas but don't expect to get up close and personal with them, and they sleep 20 hours of every day! Entry is very expensive. Almost as good as Singapore zoo.

“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

Great spot to get away from the city noise although it's very close to Perth city.
Most enclosures are built for the animals in natural surroundings so don't expect to see the animals every time.
If you're a Perth resident check to see how much construction is going on at the zoo prior to entry as on occasions that I've been many of the enclosures have been closed for construction.
Otherwise the Perth zoo is a great place to visit.

“Great tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

when there for family vacations. The zoo really big and lots of animals can be seen especially the kangaroo and koala bear the most famous animals in Australia.
Really tiring but still enjoyable. There also have some souvenirs shop and cafe. Interesting places to go if you are animal lovers. Would love to go there and visit again.
