When recently attending training in Perth we had the usual rigmarole finding accommodation that was both practical and affordable, but also nice to come home to after a long day putting your butt to sleep.
Where others chose accommodation close to the training venue I chose to stay at the Guildford River Retreat. The reasons for this covered everything from the comparative luxury (read "Natio Spa Products" and fluffy towels in the bathroom and a King sized bed made up with quality linen), to the proximity to the quaint village of Guildford which boasts some great little restaurants, which includes the amazing "Alfreds" and the "King & I Thai Restaurant". After I got home in the afternoons I had access to walks through the village and along the river and in the mornings, instead of spending long frustrating periods in peak traffic I strolled around to the train station, jumped on a train and only a few minutes later got off at the City station. A short walk and I got a connecting train to Leederville station. Another short walk and I am on the bus and a few stops later I get off at my destination, where I cross the road to get myself an AWESOME coffee and toasted Ciabatta. Which means that while others are battling traffic I am having a "holiday" before my day starts. Not bad, hey?
For the average traveller the Guildford River Retreat would of course give access to Swan Valley and it's dozens of award winning vineyards and eateries. Something to remember is also the proximity to the Belvoir Theatre (only 15 minutes away) which afford couples a lovely overnight stay rather than driving back home to the "other side" of Perth. Even better if you are attending a show from one of the small rural towns surrounding Perth.
I chose the front room which has it's own little balcony. You do look out over the train station...
