“Family Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2014

Had a great family holiday and the lodge was perfect set back on the hillside over looking the Loch and mountain side, fantastic scenery. The lodge is well equipped for self catering and very clean. Great location for day trips all over the highlands.
Cant wait to go again.
If you are looking for a holiday in Scotland i recommend that you stay at the Great Glen Lodges.

Welcome to tranquility.

We stayed in Rowan Lodge at Great Glen Lodges. Beautiful remote location, if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life - you can find your happy place here. Wake up to breathtaking views.

The owner's were away (left us a lovely message on a postcard though - thank you!) but were greeted by their friends who made us feel most welcome when we arrived. The lodge was a good size, well equipped and had comfortable beds. When it got a bit nippy the heaters kept us warm. The notorious pine martins brought us much amusement. Abundance of wildlife to enjoy.

It's only hour and a half from Inverness airport, and there's a local shop 10 mins down the road for food essentials and petrol stations weren't too far away either. Also a great base to explore the highlands, with walks nearby. The floating pub - The Eagle Inn is across the loch and good for a meal out (do pre-book though!).

Room Tip: Rowan Lodge - If you want to shower soon after you arrived, turn the hot water on as soon as you get...

My partner and I stayed at Bracken Lodge which was a wonderful lodge in a truly breathtaking surroundings.

We arrived to an extremely warm welcome from Claire who gave us lots of really useful information about the area (considering we were late on arrival too).

The recommended drive to Kinloch hourn was genuinely breathtaking.

The visiting wildlife, particularly the pine martens were an absolute treat and we loved feeding them.

We regret that our stay wasn't longer to fit in more of the many walks/restaurants and water activities etc that are available at only a short distance away.

The last leg of the drive as some have commented is a little bumpy, but really for me that was just another part of the journey to this beautiful lodge in a stunning location.

I have no doubt we shall return here, we already miss waking up to those views.

David and Taylor

We booked this based initially due to it's location on the Great Glen, however this place is so much more. On arrival we were greeted warmly by Ian and Claire and taken to our lodge (Thistle). Ian took the time to chat to us about the lodge, the local wildlife and possible places to visit. The lodge was comfy and cosy, with a beautiful view across Loch Lochy. The dining area allowed a good view of the visiting pine martins and birds. We ventured down to the loch edge, a bit of a tricky climb but worth it, but never got the opportunity to take out the boat due to doing other things.
The recommendations made by Ian proved very good.
If you are looking for a place to stay which is quiet, beautiful, and idyllic then this is the place to go. There is even a quirky little bar on a barge about 40 minutes walk away.

Stayed at the Lodge with my sister who was visiting from Australia in June and it was more than I expected. We stated in Rowan Lodge, which had 2 bedrooms one upstairs and one downstairs. All lodges have a lovely deck outside to sit and watch the love night visitors the Pine Martens and to watch the boats on the Lock going up and down.

You can walk back down the road to get to the Lock to watch the boats go through it or visited the lovely friendly bar on the barge to have a drink or a meal. We had a meal one night and just a drink another and we met lovely friendly staff and other visitors to the area, food was great.

From this area we visited lovely areas and there was lots to do within distance and Ian and Claire gave us great suggestions of where to visit.

I would love to come back and will certainly recommend the Lodges to others.

Upon arriving at Thistle Lodge on 2nd August, 2014 for 7 nights with my hubby, 2 kids and dog, we were warmly welcomed by Claire, who took the time to explain everything we needed to know, the information in the Lodge was really informative. My expectations of the location and lodge were really high and I can say without hesitation, it totally surpassed them! The Lodge was gorgeous and comfortable and had literally everything, it even had candles, I had not brought matches, when I mentioned it to Ian, he showed us matches in a drawer! The location was simply stunning, we discovered something amazing each day as a family. We did explore the nearby beauty spots but we were always glad to get back to our Lodge, where the beds was really comfortable and we all slept so well. During our stay, we did Loch Ness, The Nevis Range, Fort Augustus twice (as it was so lovely) Glenco, The Great Glen Water Park and visited the floating pub twice, all of which I would truly recommend to anyone! (but remember to pack for all kinds of clothes for all kinds of weather)

Unfortunately, we did not see the resident stag, but we saw Pine Martins every day and lots of birds and even a snake!

The drive to the lodge was adventurous with lots of animals to see on route, the local Seven Head store had all the necessities you could possibly need and sold great hot sandwiches.

All in all we had a brilliant time, it went so quickly our dog's tail never stopped wagging, he went everywhere with us, as everywhere is so dog friendly. My daughter and I were in tears when we left, as The Great Glen Lodges has stolen a piece of our hearts!

Meeting Claire and Ian was delightful and they are both passionate about what they do and absolutely love it when their residents leave happy, which we certainly did!!!!

Would recommend to anyone, pity The Highlands are so far away from us in South Yorkshire!!!!

We have just returned from a truly amazing holiday at the Great Glen Lodges.

Claire and Ian were amazing hosts and such lovely, genuine people who clearly take pride in their properties and go the extra mile to ensure their guests are comfortable and have the best holiday possible.

On arrival we were shown to our home for two weeks, Bramble Lodge. It was immaculate, roomy with everything that we needed and Claire told us about the local wildlife and places to see. It was clear immediately that nothing was too much trouble.

The scenery......just wow. What a location! The view of the Loch and surrounding hills was stunning and access to the Loch was onsite down a private staircase. The Pine Martens visited the lodge every day, adding to the magic of this place. Everyday brought a different aspect of the surrounding scenery making it a view to never tire of!!!

The road to the lodges for the last quarter mile is bumpy but driving sensibly in a BMW estate with a low trim/body kit caused us no problems at all. You certainly DO NOT need a 4x4!!!!

The location is prime, with easy access back to the A82 within 10 minutes giving easy access south and north. Even if you want to leave the car at home, the Great Glen Way runs directly behind the lodges giving walking access to Fort William and all the way to Inverness if you felt the need!!!! It's a beautiful walk and you can even walk into the Munros.

A truly beautiful place for a great family holiday!

Thank you Claire and Ian and see you next year.
