“A truly memorable meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Just back from le Marche and one of the most memorable events was our dinner at Piccolo di Rame. Nearly didn't make it as we arrived in the dark for dinner at 20:30 and Silvano had forgotten to leave the lights on up to the old mill. There is no signage so we had no idea whether we were in the right place but after nearly giving up a few othe cars arrived at this seemingly deserted village so we just follwed the crowd ( the restaurant only has 5 tables) through the stone arch into the village and up the hill.
The 12 course set meal was fantastic with each course being explained in Italian by chef Silvano to each table individually. For 30 Euros you get plenty of wine, 5 appetisers, 3 pasta dishes, 3 mains and a dessert. The portions are fairly small and the meal lasts about 3 1/2 hours so one doesn't feel to full by the end.
Silvano then prints off each table a personalised menu as a keepsake.
It may be a little bit of a drive from Macerata (25 minutes) but I can wholeheartedly recommend.

“A really unique restaurant experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Set within an old olive press, itself within a beautiful stone hamlet on the hillside, this is really different to any other meal you'll have in Italy.

Over 12 taster dishes Silvano explains each dish, its history and its ingredients. He's obviously very passionate about his food and this comes across in his enthusiasm throughout.

One thing I'd say is that he doesn't speak English, so take an Italian translator if you want the full experience. He doesn't take cards which almost caused us a problem - our hotel had to bail us out!

It's also ridiculously cheap - 30 euros each including wine.

Go there if you can!

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

This was a really fabulous dining experience. The food and service were excellent and the surroundings were truly unique. It certainly helps if someone in your group can speak Italian as the host speaks little English but he is so charming it really doesn't matter. You really must try this place

“Fantastic- food, ambience, welcome- everything for an unforgettable evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

We visited Il Picciole di Rame again this week and as it had been a while since our last visit hoped we would not be disappointed. It was even better than I remembered. The food was delicious, particularly the raviolo with ricotta and black truffles. It is fantastic value for money and Silvano is such a wonderful host- extremely knowledgeable about food, ingredients, history, herbs and is also by the bye a brilliant photographer. We plan to go again soon.

““A remarkable place - one not to miss””
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2011

I have a house in the area and was told about this restaurant by a local. It is simply one of the best restaurant experiences you will ever have and I am almost reluctant to write this review as it's tiny - 36 covers - and hard enough to get into as it is. It's in the old olive press of the castle and like stepping back in time. I wrote a blog from the summer I spent in Le Marche and I am actually going to include here the review that my 10 year old niece wrote about Il Picciolo. "The night was spectacular. All of the courses were superb. I love this restaurant as it's sensational. Personally, this is the best place ever. The service is lovely, great atmosphere, fantastic food. It's a 10 out of 10 restaurant." So there you have it! 12 courses with wine is a set price at €30. There is no menu, you eat what is served up. The owner explains the historic origins of each course and where the ingredients are sourced so try and visit with an Italian speaker as it will make the evening even better.
