“Out of Africa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2011

Livingstone lodge is the closest you will get to experiencing an African Safari in Britain. Its a magical place!. You perhaps need to have a little imagination but I can't describe the feeling of waking up early and un zipping your tent just about sunrise and seeing a small herd of Wildebeest happily grazing in the near distance. Later as you are having breakfast they approach the waterhole along with several Eland and some Zebra. All this with a backdrop of Romney Marsh looking like the African Plains and beyond it the sea looking like a great African lake. I should not forget to mention the enthusiastic and witty staff who really have experience of working with wildlife in Africa. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you soon make friends with other guests. The food is delicious and plentiful. It may seem expensive but when you consider the fact that the profits go towards valuable conservation work its not so bad. Taking into account everything I thought it was good value for money. Make the most of it and arrive eary in the day to visit the rest of the park and then go to Howletts on the second day (included in the cost) it has a very different feel so is a good contrast.

I stayed at the Livingstone Lodges at Port Lympne in Kent with my daughters, all in their twenties to celebrate my eldest daughter's upcoming wedding.
From the very start it was a wonderful experience and we couldn't fault our stay throughout. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and informative. The accommodation was excellent and the views from the lodges were incredible. We were lucky enough to be right by the waterhole and at sunset watched the zebras, ostriches and numerous types of deer . In the distance (although not too far away) we could see the rhinos and giraffes. On the journey to the lodges the giraffes came right up to the truck.
The food for our evening meal and breakfast the next morning was delicious and the service again was impeccable.
We couldn't have asked for more, it was a wonderful way to celebrate a very special occasion.

We booked the Livingstone Lodge overnight safari after having seen it reviewed in a magazine. It was a lovely experience. From the champagne welcome to the goodbyes at the end of our stay the whole thing was extremely well managed by our excellent and friendly african hosts. We enjoyed the safari rides through the park and the talks given by the guides at each animal encounter made the whole thing even better.
The lodge with it's well equiped and comfy tents is great and the meal we had in the evening cooked in the fire pit was truly a gastronomic feast. We slept well, only woken by the sounds of the animals - african wild dogs barking, zebra snufling and the wilderbeest making whatever sound it is they make! After a hearty breakfast we had our second truck safari and then sadly had to say goodbye.
We spent the rest of the day in the park and, contrary to the negative comments seen on TripAdvisor (these people must be very hard to please or else really enjoy complaining) we really enjoyed walking round and seeing the other animals we hadnt seen on the safari.
If you can't get to Africa on a real safari, then this is the next best thing. We really can't speak highly enough of the superb rangers/hosts and the excellent food - well worth a trip if you want a night away that is a little out of the ordinary!

We went for the expensive over night safari stay in tents wiht safari adn then full day in the park. The tents were very comfy and good view. Nice meal at nght over looking the park. Rhino wandering while we ate. Early morning safari . Lions and elephants not in the park so mainly zebra and wilderbest. Lions and eles are in the zoo part of the park so not roaming free. The Gorilla enclosure is very good. Have seen Gorilla in the wild so did feel a little sorry to see them in captivity- however if they have to be in captivity the way they are treated here is very good. Not so the lions and tigers who are obviously board and in small enclosures.

A very good time, sad in some parts but a good experience.
