“Great french cuisine to reasonable prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

Le Saint Jacques is still as good as it was 5 years ago. Good french cuisine to acceptable prices. We had a nice table outside on the terrasse and could take profite from the last sunshines. The foie gras is excellent as well as the steak frites with sauce tartare. Had one glas of good chardonnay and the glas of côte du rhone. Both really good. The service was ok. Can sincerly recommand the place...

“Great French restaurant in Copenhagen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

Truly a proper French restaurant in Copenhagen. The food has always been good. The room is a bit cramped, and don't expect Michelin star service. Always been very happy with this place

“Fine food, but the dining experience lacked finesse”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

The name of this restaurant, owned by the French-born chef and culinary writer Daniel Letz, is playfully inspired by its location on Sankt Jakobs Plads in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen. The menu, presented in both French and English, features a good balance of meat, fish and poultry dishes. The wine list is understandably French-dominated, featuring wines from all the principal regions. Only five of the 30+ wines on offer are available for purchase by the glass.

From the evening menu we chose fish soup and smoked salmon for starters, and for the main course chicken breast & liver in raspberry sauce, and braised lamb provençale. The wine we chose was a 2010 Pinot Noir.

With the possible exception of raspberries jostling with onions, the flavours of the fare we tasted were pleasing and the dishes had balanced composition. The lamb was especially tender. So why only a two star overall rating?

Well, it was all the other things contributing to the quality of dining experience that brought the score down. Our table rocked alarmingly on an unsteady single foot (it was fixed after some effort by the staff), and the stump of lit table candle expired with minutes of us taking our seats. It was not replaced. The pot-like soup bowl was incompatible with the dimensions of the soup spoon, making it impossible to extract the last quarter of the contents without tipping the bowl practically on its side, and the fork laid out for the meat dish was badly bent. The wine was not shown to us for customary identification before it was uncorked, and was served at a temperature considerably above that which is acceptable for enjoying Pinot Noir. The glasses into which it was poured were squat, fat-lipped, and thick-stemmed – hardly appropriate vessels for an elegant wine.

Of course, we could have complained about these things. But a litany of complaints, even if satisfactorily dealt with, doesn't add up to an enjoyable dining experience. We took the pragmatic course and politely left after two courses, which with the wine cost us DKK 925 (EUR 134) for two persons.

If you don't necessarily align your expectations of dining experience with the prices you pay, you might well enjoy a visit here. But if you're looking for service finesse to match the quality of the food, you could be disappointed.

“Good, relaxing french lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013 via mobile

We both had steaks and wine. Nicely done french fries. Steak was very good.
Wine was appropriate to the meal.
Sitting outside when the sun is shining is a must. Looking forward to come back and try the french specialties.

All the 3 times I was there, I had a great experience: cozy atmosphere, good service and delicious food, nothing fancy, just simple french inspired kitchen. The salmon is especially exquisite!
