We stayed for one night at this amazing guest house en route from the UK to Bordeaux. We wish we could have stayed longer as Le Clos de la Garde and its host Manfred achieve what many can only aspire to.
After a 6 hour drive Manfred made us most welcome and the beautiful Diane suite provided us with comfort and respite. The accomodation that comprises a lounge, bedroom and en-suite is a beautifully appointed mix of contemporary and warm intimacy (large hotel chains should take note)
There were many highlights during our short stay; the grounds and tranquil surroundings, the owls hooting at night and most notibly the aperitif in the caves followed the gorgeous dinner with Manfred. This was prepared by him with produce from his gardens, accompanied by excellent local rose and red wines and Manfreds delightful wit and charm.
Breakfast was great - croissants, bread, home made preserves (do ask for the green tomato with vanilla jam - it's amazing) juice and coffee. It set us up for the drive ahead.
This truly is a gem and whilst we would like to keep it a secret we won't so you must stay here if you are in the area - you will not regret it.
