“Tired hotel but great for airport”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

If you are looking to stay near Birmingham airport overnight with car parking thrown in this place is fine - good value for a weeks parking and complimentary taxi to and from airport - it's around ten to 15 minutes drive.
It is rather run down and in an eighties time warp -if you stayed for longer than a night you may have to start yourself on a low dose of Prozac or similar as it has a very depressing, souless atmosphere.
We booked a double room but for some reason we were given a 'suite' - dingy sitting room, bathroom, bedroom all smelling of cigarettes which was how I imagine a bail hostel.
We were surpised that the meal in the bar was actually quite good pub grub, our flight was early so we didn't have breakfast.
It's fine for an overnight stopover , booking in and out was efficient, and that's about it - does what it says on the tin.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else!

We were visiting the NEC Spring fair. Our room was double the normal rate. No mirror at the dressing table, only 1 packet of biscuits, no bottled water,no shower gel, toilet didn't flush properly, to fill the bath I had to do so by using the shower as the taps didn't work, cotton wool ball down the side of the bed when we arrive still there when we left! It was noisey at night with the floor above door banging, Bar meals ok even tho one evening the peas were like bullets and the chips hard, restaurant food was nice the staff were friendly and the young girl called Annabel was very helpful. If we paid the normal rate I probably wouldn't have complained as much but even so I would not stay again.

1st visit Jan 2013 for 2 night stay
Easy to find – easy to park and book in, generally a bit tired hence rooms charges are too high unless you had a room-rate deal, Breakfast good
2nd visit Feb 2013 for 1 night stay
Had a booking in issue, Seemed quickly resolve, different people with different approach, following morning had issues with charges, “breakfast was £12.50 not £10.00, as not booked on line, plus they overcharge the room-rate, different from rate given with booking.com … unfortunately being full of the dreaded cold, I could not be bothered to argue and decided it could be resolve later from home, “as it is all due to the original booking in not being identified this time at the reception”, even after forwarding the email conformation from booking.com.
Luckily for me the office is dealing with it,
Unluckily for me I have just had an ear bashing, so they ain’t making good progress,

I was extremely concerned about the hotel as a venue for my mother's wake especially after reading the reviews on here. I did not personally stay at the hotel so this review is more about the hotel as a venue for a gathering, however a couple of people in our party did and had no complaints.
I would warn prospective customers not to use the upstairs conference room (called the Crown Suite). As other reviewers here have stated, there is an overpowering smell of chlorine in the room which is a shame as if anything it is the smarter of the two conference rooms.
We used the Four Ashes Suite. There's no doubt that whole hotel has a tired air, and is in need of at least a lick of paint. However the conference room itself, when full of people and with all the tables set up and covered in white table cloths was fine. Also the staff were very good and the buffet and bar were efficiently and unobtrusively provided. I was particularly impressed that the management were often visible and making sure things were running properly.
Thanks to all involved.

We booked a park and stay at this hotel prior to flying from Birmingham International Airport. The room was OK for the night and in the morning we were asked to fill in a sheet of info ready for our return. We were told to ring the hotel from the airport and they would send a taxi (which we had pre paid). We duly arrived back after a 5 hour flight but when we tried to ring there was no reply, we tried both numbers but neither were answered. We went to the local Tourist office and they found us another number but no one answered that either - we were stranded at the airport! Eventually after 5 tries I gave up and rang the taxi firm myself - they took us to the hotel. There was only one person on the reception, poor girl she was trying to answer the phones and deal with guests arriving and departing. She was very apologetic but it was not her fault. Clearly very understaffed. The receptionist finally gave me a docket to give to the taxi driver so that I did not have to pay - initially she said that this only applied if they had rung the taxi firm.
A terrible end to a great holiday - we definitely wont be using them again!

Dear Mel520

Thank you for your recent comments regarding your Park & Fly package.

I was concerned to read that you had tried to call the hotel on several occasions and your calls were unanswered, I will be investigating this with the relevant department.

We do value your business and moving forward we would hope to see you at the hotel in the future.

Kindest regards

I used this hotel whilst on business at the NEC... now, ex landladies and Marketing Managers are not known for their sobriety and the Stella lines needed a damn good clean, the beer in Morriseys had that 'clean me' tang and so most nights we drank over the road in the Harvester where the San Miguel ticked the box!

That said, the food we did eat in the Regency Bar was cheap and pretty good, breakfast was amazing and the staff were helpful, my single room was super spotlessly clean and spacious and I have to say they were very accommodating, allowing us to leave our pallets in a pre-arranged spot on the car park... so overall I'd say the hotel did everything it said on the tin.

Our Director wasn't happy that the gym opened too late for him to use it over the weekend, as we were up at the crack of dawn to battle the NEC traffic wardens (stick a yellow coat on anyone and they think they are a policeman...), so maybe the hotel could consider changing that, but overall our stay was pleasant so Im giving it a high rating, and we will use them again next year.

Dear Cheerycharlie

Thank you for your recent review and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, especially the food in the bar and breakfast.

We have taken on board your comments regarding the opening times of our Leisure Club and if in future, the business demands, we will consider looking at an earlier opening time.

Regarding Morrisy's bar we did investigate and everything was found to be in order but thank you for your comments.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kindest regards

We used this hotel for airport parking.

On arrival the girl on reception didn't even acknowledge me and when she finally did she didn't come to the reception just stayed sat at the desk behind.

Whilst waiting for our taxi to the airport we decided to have a coffee except the young lad behind the desk said he was closed despite being stood there with a coffee machine in front of him! Seemed a bit odd as other people in the room had coffees!

I wasn't looking forward to staying here on our return however the 2 men (possibly receptionist and night porter) that checked us in at 2am were so lovely bearing in mind how tired we all were and helped take our suitcases to our room as we had 2 very sleepy children. (Wish I had taken note of their names so I could mention them on here as they were wonderful - possibly Paul?)

The room was fine for the few hours we needed it for, the beds were comfy and we all got a few hours sleep. The shower wasn't very hot and was more like a dripping tap so we decided to leave the kids Until we got home. There was also only one towel between the 4 of us.

The lady that checked us out was a credit to the hotel (Emma) she was very friendly and showed a genuine interest in how our holiday went.

The hotel seems a bit dated and its not somewhere I would want to spend too long at but for the airport transfer and one night it was fine. We didn't have breakfast as it was £12 each and we had already spotted McDonald's down the road! Another Holiday treat for the kids!
