“Could be good ..but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Based on the TripAdvisor reviews we popped in for lunch today. It is a lovely 16th century pub with lots of character, and the staff are very nice.

I am always a bit concerned when I see a large menu in a pub, the warning sign of FOOD SERVICES. Then to top it all the only special of the day was potato and leek soup. So we thought we would play it safe and have burgers, which our waiter raved about. No nice crumbly homemade beef burgers for us as they were made by some loving machine. This was a shame really as the presentation and salad was excellent and the overall plate of food wasn't bad. When it came to desert the menu said homemade dessert, and when I questioned the waitress she said that this was not the case. The sticky toffee pudding was a bit of a disaster stodgy, not very tasty and badly microwaved.

With a simple one page menu and a great specials board this pub would be great, but just let down by taking a short cut on the food which is a real pity.

“Good food, quaint pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

We ate here on Sunday as we wanted to see how good the food was with a view to booking for a big celebration later on in the year. The starters were superb, I had stuffed mushroom, my husband had fish......and my husband had roast lamb, and I had haddock with a poached egg for our main. It was good value, large portions and the food was of a high standard and well presented. We will be booking the big celebration meal here after being looked after so well.

“Quaint with great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

What an exquisite place, with low beamed ceilings and original fittings plus a great menu. The food lived up to recommendations from neighbours and was a great place to take friends - make sure you book a table though.

“Wonderful pub...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

After having a drink in the pub just down the road (which was DREADFUL) we walked in here and it was an oasis of classy undertstated decor and friendly barstaff and punters. Will return when in the area.
