“Madidi Jungle EcoLodge is Superb and Genuine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

How lucky I was to find this ecotourist lodge---it captured the best of jungle life with spectacular walks in the jungle, food that was better than highly rated restaurants in La Paz and very wonderful staff. Although the rooms are not luxurious (nor should they be in the jungle) they are quite adequate and every need was taken care of. The theme of sustainability and being green is practiced throughout the lodge. I was very impressed how aware the people are of living in harmony with nature (better than most of the U.S.) Alex is exceptional as a manager and will go far in his endeavors having completed his master's degree in tourism. He could not have been more helpful and caring. It was a great pleasure working with him to make our trip fantastic. Our guide Norman was also amazing and really fun to be with. He seemed to really care about our experience in the jungle. He knows all the animal and plant species and never got tired of our endless questions. We hated to leave this wonderful place and people. Bolivia was truly a beautiful experience with Madidi the highlight--and my pictures just don't capture its beauty.

Room Tip: There are only 6 rooms so I think they are all good.

My 2nd visit to Madidi NP took me to Madidi Jungle Lodge. What an amazing experience. We were greeted at airport by our guide, Alex who also accompanied us to our hotel. He met us the next morning and accompanied us on the boat to Madidi JL.
The lodge itself is superb, very small in a clearing surrounded by jungle. Everything is run by the small community who live there. Their knowledge of their surroundings enhances an already superb experience. I've got to take my hat off to Alex and his team and thank them for an amazing three days in the jungle :-)

Many hotels use the tag "eco"' but this place truly is based on sustainable living and building a future for a remote jungle community. There are only a few people that live and work a the lodge. And the logistics of making sure we were (very) well fed, slept in pristine white sheets and had the time of our lives exploring the jungle must be mind boggling. Everything ran smoothly and perfectly. We had one guide to ourselves who knew the jungle instinctively and showed us many great insights to the animals and the plant life we encountered. A real highlight of any trip. It is the amazon jungle, with a touch of luxury. Special touches included being picked up from airport when we didn't expect it. The whole range of people working to make our trip special, right frm the booking process with Alex, through to the boat driver, the cooks and the guide were all just fabulous, nice people who were brilliant at their jobs.

Room Tip: All are equal in terms of view and quality and nearness to the showers and loos.

We really enjoyed our trip and were looked after by all staff.alex was very helpful and due to unforeseen illness was able to change our flights and dates at the lodge free of charge and without any hassle.
The accommodation was more than sufficient and the food was easily the best we have had on our two month trip of South America-a huge variety of meals with very big portions ( which were needed to keep you going on the long walks during the day)
We were lucky enough to go on two night walks as well as walks throughout the day, piranha fishing and the trip ended tubing down the amazon river! Magnificent!
Our guide allahandro was not only friendly but highly knowledgeable about the jungle having lived in it all of his life
A brilliant family run lodge by indiginous people from the surrounding area! Highly recommend

My recent stay at Madidi Jungle Ecolodge was an amazing adventure from the moment I stepped onto the boat for the trip up the river. The food and accommodation were great and my guide, Alejandro, was super-knowledgeable and very friendly. I have stayed in a number of tropical ecolodges, but this was definitely the best. There was a problem with my Air Amaszonas flight the day I left and I had to travel to La Paz by taxi to make my flight back to Canada. Alex from Madidi Jungle Ecolodge was extremely helpful, even called me during the ride to be sure everything was okay. Madidi Jungle Ecolodge staff are a great group of professionals. Well done, guys!

We stayed at Madidi Jungle Ecolodge for 3d/2n at the end of June and would highly recommend it! We were so well looked after, from the minute we arrived in Rurrenabaque. It took 3 hours by boat to get to the lodge & once there we were shown to our basic but lovely & clean room then provided with a delicious lunch. Our days were spent on long (but not strenuous) walks during which our guide pointed out any interesting plants & wildlife along the way. We were provided with 3 meals a day, all of which were delicious! Some of our sightings included capybara, macaws, tapirs, peccaries, howler monkeys, parakeets, tarantulas, humming birds and an endless array of gorgeous butterflies. Note - this is nothing like the tours of the pampas where you are "guaranteed" to see anacondas etc, if you see exciting wildlife here, that's a bonus. The lodge is run by locals who obviously care about their home & want to preserve it & I don't blame them, it is a truly beautiful place!

Dear Josie R

Thank you so much for your excellent comment.
Your visit to Madidi Jungle Ecolodge for us has been a great opportunity to continue protecting one of the most biodiversity and fragile ecosystems on the planet. True, our cabins are rustic and are surrounded by dense primary rainforest. Thank you for highlighting the positive details of your experience visiting the jungle in the Madidi National Park in Bolivia. Our activities are flexible and where possible we try to organize small groups with no more than 4-5 passengers with a native guide, it certainly this helps you to have a better experience visiting the jungle. We take them back soon Madidi Jungle Ecolodge in the near future.
Best regards,

Alex & Madidi Jungle Ecolodge Team

We researched just about all the Madidi options before deciding on Madidi Jungle Ecolodge and are so glad we did. After meeting with Alex in La Laz we were convince. He was great at explaining the options to us and arranging everything. No pressure to book and no requesting money up front ( a welcome change in Bolivia!). We had trouble getting any replies from hotels in Rurre to book a room for a couple of days, one email to Alex and it was all sorted. He was also kind enough to provide suggestion for other places we were visiting such as Santa Cruz and Trinidad, Samaipata etc. his advice and comments were spot on.

We arrived at Rurre airport and were surprised to see Alex waiting as we hadn't arranged anything. He was kind enough to take us o our hotel and boo us in. Above and beyond what anyone could have expected.

From start to finish our 4 night, 5 day tour was a fantastic experience. Everyone in the community running Madidi Junge Ecolodge, the guides, the kitchen staff, the boatmen etc.is so welcoming and are always smiling. It was a real pleasure just to be around them.

The lodge itself is around 3.5 hours upstream and is a great tour in its own right. On arrival at the lodge we were shown to our room and around the camp. We had been wary of not having an en suite but needn't have worried as there were 4 bathrooms for 5 rooms so it was not an issue even on the one night the lodge was full. Our room was simple but with a very comfortable bed with high quality and pristine white linen which was made up for us every day.

Our guide Raoul was one of the best we have ever known. He spoke great English and was so knowledgeable about everything we saw. We had never been into bird watching before, we are now! He was engaging an informative throughout the whole five days. Other people saying reported similar experiences.

The food was also a complete surprise. Given the remote location, we weren't expecting a great deal but what we got was some of the best food we have had during our six weeks in Bolivia. A particularly nice treat was to eat the BBQ catfish our boatman had caught on our fishing trip that day (the only thing I caught was a large stingray which, sadly was not edible!).

The lodge is run by the community who retain all the benefits. I really can't recommend Madidi Jungle Ecolodge highly enough which, believe me doesn't happen very often!
