“Wonderful, genuine ecotourism experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2012

We stayed for 5 nights here and it was brilliant. We were the only people staying, did morning and afternoon walks through the rainforest as well as a boat trip. We saw lots of birds, frogs, butterflies, monkeys (howler, spider, 2 tamarins, and capuchins), peccaries and on the way out a capybara and a jaguar.

This place is run by the same people as Chalalan and its a great project. Its 100% owned and run by the indigenous community. The guide, Raul was excellent and the rest of the people working there were lovely. The food was fantastic and there was lots of it, both meat eaters and vegetarians were well catered for by Adela. Highly recomend this to anyone interested in wildlife, we will definately be back.

We spent 4 days at the ecolodge and had a really good time. The lodge was in a small clearing in the jungle about 3 hours from Rurre so you travel further into the jungle than with most other operators (except Chalalan which i think is 6 hours, but then you spend most of your trip on the boat). Alex was great in helping us arrange our trip which was run by members of the local community. We saw loads of wildlife in the nearby jungle and did some great treks into the forest. Our guide, Nelson, was very knowledgeable about the jungle including animals, plants and medicinal properties, though he didnt seem too happy about us not speaking spanish which seemed a bit strange when we had intentionally hired an english speaking guide and probably paid for that priviledge. The room and bathrooms were great and it is a nice small lodge with a maxiumum of 12 people compared to the larger lodges elsewhere where you could get stuck with a tour group. When we stayed at the lodge is was just the 2 of us so was pretty much a private tour. Food was fantastic and I think I gained about 5kg while there. Would definately recommend this place for a jungle tour. Though the office is hard to find! but maybe they have actually put a sign up by now

Dear Rich & Phil:

We would like to say thank you so much for the great review you posted on Tripadvisor!
Thank you for your kind comments about the food, service and facilities provided by Madidi Jungle Ecolodge. We are very happy to know that you have enjoyed your stay with us travelling with an exclusive tour. At the same time, we are very happy to receive your helpful feedback. We are especially happy since you clearly described that Madidi Jungle Ecolodge is located deep in the rainforest and the Lodge is just for small group, best for responsible jungle experience, fully community owned and operated. Sorry if our guide not felt happy with you because you did not speak Spanish.
Please if you are looking for one of the best nature & wildlife experience in Bolivia, combined with a very nice lodge environment, probably our Lodge is the best one for you at Madidi national park! We hope you come back soon. Thanks again for the great review!

All the best,

Alex Villca Limaco

My husband and I spent 4 days in the jungle at the lodge. The location is 3 hours upstream and you are definately in the heart of the jungle. The rooms are comfy, and beds have mosquito nets. However the actual rooms are not protected from mozzies so your only safe spot is your bed. There are hammocks to chill out in and a dining area next to the kitchen. Again this isn't covered so make sure to bring repellent. Our guide was Henry who was very knowledgable about the area and the wildlife. Jackeline was our cook and the food was delicious! We had very filling breakfasts and three course lunch and dinners. Melvin was our captain who safely navigated us up and down the stunning Beni and Tuichi Rivers. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting the rustic jungle experience.

The Madidi ecolodge is an amazing place to stay in the amazon. I have never slept so well as I did there as it was so relaxing listening to the sounds of the jungle. The food was really phenomenal, the breakfasts were without a doubt the best of my trip and the staff are lovely. One morning during breakfast we could spot tamarin monkeys just jumping through the trees at the lodge! I highly recommend going to the Amazon with them.

We really enjoyed having you in our remote community-based ecotourism project. Thanks for pointing out how nice you found our new Madidi Jungle Ecolodge, located in the heart of the Madidi national park. We recently returned from 3 fabulous nights at Maddi Jungle Lodge, owned and run by the San Jose community in the Maddi National Park. We contacted Maddi Jungle Tours (part of the San Jose community also) who organised the perfect tour for us. My husband and I had the entire lodge to ourselves.

Our trip was perfect in every way!

Maddi Jungle Tours & Lodge are the perfect example of ecotourism and community-based tourism being done as it should be. We picked this company because of their dedication to looking after the environment but also because we knew our visit was helping to support the local indigenous community directly.

The cabins are simple but have everything you need - hard but comfortable beds (we slept perfectly every night), mosquito nets, showers using rain/river water, no electricity but you dont need it, hammocks to relax in (and enjoy afternoon siesta).

All food was prepared by friendly staff from the San Jose community, allowing us to enjoy traditional meals made with local ingredients grown in and around the cabins. We had so much delicious food, it really was like luxury having all our meals prepared (including in the cost of the tour).

Wonderful activities that we enjoyed included day and night time jungle walks (guided by Freddy, an important member of the San Jose community), swimming and floating down the river on a rubber tube down the river, boat rides along the river, piranha fishing and eating and of course as much relaxing in hammocks as we wanted to.

I would definitely recommend this trip to everyone, especially people are who are looking for an authentic jungle experience that helps the indigenous communities continue to survive.

Thank you Maddi Jungle Tours and San Jose community!

Room Tip: All rooms are great.
