“This hotel was a bit disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Just returned from 2 weeks holiday at this hotel with our 2 children and another family. As usual the company made the holiday, but our friends have been to other Riu hotels and feel this one is not up to the usual standard.
The positives are the staff, every single of member of staff were fantastic and I mean every member.
The hotel itself is ok, don't think it should be a 4 star. The food was ok, but the variety was very poor and it could be cold. If you like salad you will be ok, as this was always good. The themed night i.e. Italian, Canarian were terrible, they were served in a separate dining area, the food here was poor and very cold.
The bedrooms are very big and maintained well, the beds were a bit hard for me. The swimming pools and surrounding areas are spotless and kept to a very high standard, the hotel gym could be doing with some new equipment, as this is also poor for what is described. Only other information I would point out is to watch your children's sun suits, we left our kids on our sunbeds to dry and when we returned after lunch they were gone, reported it to the life guard, reception who were most apologetic but they were gone, when we informed our First choice rep she was not interested.
The trips we did were fantastic Loro Parque & Siam Park are fantastic and i'd recommend to go.
The hotel is also isolated as there is not much to see and do round about it. We will return to Tenerife, but not to Playa Parasio.

My fiancé and I came here 1st-14th July. Our impression was really welcoming. The staff can’t do enough for you and are always on hand to help you.
The rooms are tired looking but always cleaned everyday to a high standard. They’re a good size and have big balconies with sunbeds on. Unfortunately our room’s drains were blocked so when you let the bath water out it came up through the shower and smelt really bad! But we mentioned it to reception and they sent maintenance to fix it. However, the location of our room was perfect! It was all the way on the 9th floor but it was nice and quiet always and we never had to wait to use the lift.
The pools are nice and big but the sunbathing area did get crowded and it was best to reserve a sun bed between 8 and 9am. The small man made beach made nice scenery around the hotel and there are plenty of places to alternatively sunbathe there. There are plenty of activities going on during the day that seemed really popular such as aqua aerobics, water polo, etc. There is also a gym and sports courts.
The food on the whole was nice. Breakfast and lunch had little variation but a wide variety and the food was always really nice- especially lunch in the snack bar. Dinner at the themed restaurant was a nice change some nights as it was a lot quieter- the best night we had was one of the Italian evenings. You can visit there as many times as you like for free during your stay. We also found it was better to eat in the main restaurant at 7.30 onwards and sit up at the back, up the ramp, as it was quieter. There’s a wide variety on drinks under all inclusive- I’ve not been to a hotel that offers glasses of champagne under all inclusive so that was nice. All of the cocktails in the day are mixed with crushed ice which kept them nice and cool.
We didn’t go and see any evening entertainment as we preferred to sit with a few drinks and play cards or watch the sport on the TV instead. One evening there was a quiz night which made a nice difference to our evening. There was always a live singer or musician in the main bar if you chose to stay in there.
Within the hotel itself there are few little souvenir shops, a beauty shop and a shop to get your newspapers and so on, so no need to venture out of the hotel.
You can also get free bottled water from reception and also free change of pool towels whenever you like.
Overall, it was a nice experience (and a good first impression of a Riu hotel) but for us personally we found it a little too busy at times and would prefer a smaller, quieter hotel in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has sunshine on the balcony in the afternoon if you want the sun for the longest...

From the moment we landed we were well looked after, a rep directed us to our coach which took us to our hotel. Even arriving at night it looked fab ! Plenty of staff on reception to get everybody checked in without a que ! Restaurant normally closes at 10pm but re-opened especially for our late arrival so we could have tea. Pool area is great always beds available also stacks of beds out if you want to get one and put it wherever you like! Plenty of bars and self serve drinks available plus big range of food always hot and great salad bar .Short walk to the beach and 10min walk to promenade of a few shops and English bars ! Room was very spacious, big on suite bathroom, fridge and also an extra toilet, huge balcony with table chairs and sun lounger! Staff were all fantastic and very helpfu! Great holiday great hotel and great staff! Already planning our next visit !

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view or partial sea view the sunsets are fantastic !

The hotels located in an isolated position with very limited good walks, access to shops, entertainment, etc. car or taxis advised. Sea views from the hotel are good but that's the only positive re location.

The rooms are basic at best although functional. No upgrades available at hotel if you are disappointed. Views from most of the rooms include a sea view which compensates slightly.
Furniture within the rooms looks like ikea issue 10 years ago.

The most disappointing part of this hotel is the food. There are two main eating areas. The main dinning area is not fully managed by the staff which can make finding a seat especially for larger families a challenge. The food at breakfast is very poor in terms of choice and quality. Food at Lunch and dinner are much better but the number of people in this dinning room can see you in lengthy queues while any food you have got on your plate gets cold. Apart from water the drinks have to be got by yourself from the drinks machines located in the dinning area.

The second dinning area at rear of the hotel beside the sea is no better. It offers a great alfresco dinning location but you do need to be careful with the food in this location as it is often not covered and the flies and local birds feast on what is left out. It is difficult to see how this can continue. We witnessed a pigeon walk through the cheese and mayonnaise several times.

We were very disappointed by this hotel and raised our complaint with the hotel staff and first choice.
Both parties listened but the response was dissapointing.
We were offered a change of room for free or a change of hotel for £2500 pounds. I should have moved hotels in hindsight albeit I resented the charge given that this hotel was rated as 4 stars-never!!!

Both pools are overcrowded with little or no space between the loungers. The entertainment is dire with the adults having to endure the birdie song, Macarena and old cd music. One night we were delighted to have had no entertainment.

This party of six including two teenagers, their patents and grandparents will not be returning to this hotel any time soon. If you are use to 4 star holiday and better, do not go here.

I read all the reviews about this hotel before booking this hotel.

I've just returned from a 7 day stay with my wife & teenage son.
On arrival (23:30) at the hotel we were greeted with a happy to help receptionist who spoke excellent English.
We were given our room, advised thee was food & drink available, even though we landed late which was a great touch!
On entering our room we were very surprised at the size & the location as it over looked the cliffs to the beach.
We stayed All Inclusive & the food was plentiful, somewhat varied each day to a degree.
We found the food in the buffet restaurant a nice change with a much quieter surroundings.
The service we received at meal time was second to none, they were always happy to help & nothing was to challenging.
The same goes for the bar staff, cleaners & all the receptionists.
If you required sun-loungers you needed to be up before 7:30 as there were none left by 8.
The hotel stated you were not allowed to reserve these but yet that didn't stop the usual suspects
Reserve your sun-lounger with a towel, but be warned, leave & the security guard would take your towel away if you left before 8am.
The amenities & activities during the day were more than plentiful from volleyball, football to shooting & much more!
The night time entertainment however was poor to say the least.
I'm 55, my wife 49 with a 17yr old lad & all said the entertainment let the holiday down.
There's not much to do around the hotel as your out the way.
You can take the free shuttle bus into Las Americas and have plenty of shopping, eating at some good restaurants, walking along an excellent beach front to visiting Siam Park for a fun packed water park.
You can visit Los Christianos market on a Sunday and pick up some nice gifts, but be warned, there's a lot of shady goods on sale & watch out for the pick pockets.
If you want to have a good drink, don't rely on getting drunk as its all watered down!
If you have anyone with a mobility problem, then this hotel could be a challenge as there's a lot oh steep walk ways.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the holiday!
Would we re-book, get the entertainment sorted & I would definitely consider booking again.
I would give the food, service, cleanliness & room 10 out of 10, the night time entertainment 3 out of 10.
I hope this review helps if your considering booking.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Myself and my partner have just returned after a week at this hotel and we had a lovely holiday, everything we wanted and expected from a 4 star hotel. The staff were very very friendly and couldn't do more to help. The hotel was clean and the family room very spacious with a complimentary safe. Most rooms had a good view, ours in particular a very good view facing the pools and sea. The pool area did get very busy sunbed wise but the pools were nice and large and the activities seemed popular. There was a snack bar so food was available all day and the drinks themselves as part of the all inclusive were brilliant as it was actual coke, sprite, Fanta etc not cheap imitations. Beer and wine was also on tap / help yourself and cocktails were available all inclusive. There was also unlimited water from reception so no need to buy from a shop. Most flights home to the UK leave in the evenings and the hotel does offer a complimentary room for half an hour to change if you want to spend the day by the pool. The food was good, a good selection for all tastes. I cannot comment too much on the evening entertainment as I am 25 weeks pregnant and got very very tired in the evening so went to bed early!
The only negative things to comment on was the location may be considered by some slightly out of it but it depends what type of holiday you want. There was a bus into Playa Americas in the daytime free via the hotel. If you want a large beach Playa Paraiso isn't the place to go, the one near the hotel is very small with no beds or anything.
The beds in the rooms are two singles pushed together and not the most comfortable I have slept on to be honest. The hotel lifts are also possibly the slowest I have ever experienced.
The dining hall did get very crowded at times and the queue a little off putting and not clear. The chips/fries were very popular and people seemed to queue just for these which caused problems if you wanted what was at the side of the chips (veg etc) so sometimes you stood and waited and everyone was just waiting for chips but obviously you didn't want to appear to be pushing in to get to the veg. I believe two trays of chips at either end of the buffet would have solved this easily.
As you can tell the slightly negative complaints I have mentioned aren't a major problem and would not stop me from returning to this hotel or anything Riu resort in the future. Definatly worth a visit :-)

Room Tip: If you want a good view request a room in B Block facing the sea...great views :-)
