“Great relaxing break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We had a lovely 10 day break at this hotel in mid February and I have to agree with the more positive reviews on here. Sure, there were a lot of kids around, even though part of our holiday was outside half-term. But what do you expect when you book a family hotel - and yes it was clearly advertised as such ....at least, when I booked it was! The lower (heated) pool was a bit noisy but the upper one was fine and I had no problems chilling out. Frankly, if you are a bit child-phobic, there are plenty of adults only hotels you can go to.
As for the rest of it - it was fine. The rooms, as others have said, are huge. As with all hotels, there are some that are better than others in terms of views but ours (A128) looked out to sea and was lovely.
I saw the review below (Don't Go - 18th Feb) while I was actually in the hotel and laughed out loud. How anybody can describe any aspect of this hotel as 'filthy' and 'disgusting' is beyond me. Everything is absolutely spotless !
The food was fine (and hot) - although I would say that after 10 days, it was getting a bit repetitive. There was plenty of choice but other Rius I've been to seemed to have a bit more and by the end, I was looking forward to something a little different.
What really makes this place great though, and again it seems to be a theme at Riu, is the staff. They really are the most attentive hotel staff I've ever come across and as others have said, will do anything or you. It's not an act either - you only have to watch the way they interact with each other. None of them are being nice because the manager says 'be nice to the guests'. They all obviously care that you are having a great holiday. For that alone, this hotel deserves a visit.
I don't usually return to a hotel out of choice - I prefer to go somewhere different next time. However, I'd have no problem coming back here.

Room Tip: Block A 126 to 129 (or 226, 326 etc) all have lovely sea views.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

My partner and I stayed at the hotel for four nights in the middle of March. We wanted somewhere to just get away for a few days and literally do nothing but relax. For this kind of break the hotel is perfectly situated. It’s far enough away from the busier resorts so that it’s not overpopulated, but just close enough should you wish to visit (the hotel offers a free shuttle bus). The hotel is located along the coast and offers some excellent views out to sea, and a nice breeze when it gets too hot. The welcome from the hotel was first-rate, and they couldn't do enough to help. Our room was an excellent size, having two bathrooms and a large balcony overlooking the pool and out to sea. They have a lovely infinity pool which although not heated soon warmed up when you were in there. This overlooked a heated pool below. The lower pool was consistently busier and the surrounding sun loungers were very much populated by families and younger children. So if you're looking for a quiet spot to read and relax stick to the top sun beds. Apart from the usual trouble of people reserving sun beds that they only used sporadically throughout the day, there were ample loungers, and the staff were more than happy to bring out extra umbrellas as required. The bars all have a self-service area next to them allowing you to grab your own soft drinks, beers and wines, which is incredibly convenient. The bars also offer a full selection of spirits and some interesting cocktails. The hotel pre-booked us into the sea-front restaurant for the first evening, although you can book in for every night if you like. To be honest I though the food was no different to the main restaurant, so we never went out of our way to eat there again. I understand that a couple of reviewers have had some complaints about the food but honestly it is fine. There is plenty of choice and variety and the table staff were very friendly and helpful, but at the end of the day an all-inclusive buffet is not going to completely satisfy everyone's tastes. Whilst there are a few shops and restaurants in the local area that you can walk to there is little else in the vicinity to do. If you're looking for an action packed resort then stay elsewhere, but for a few days of sun and relaxation it’s ideal. The entertainment was hit or miss. The animation team work hard but their results are patchy at best. However, the circus act which was brought in was excellent are perhaps one of the best things I've seen in such a resort. There is also free Wi-Fi available in reception, you just have to ask for the password, although it can get slow due to the number of people accessing it. Yes the hotel isn't perfect (i.e. gourmet dining and plush rooms), but the short break more than exceeded what we were looking for and I couldn't give the hotel and staff any less than five stars. Hopefully be back soon.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have a sea-view but always handy to request one.

We stayed at this hotel - me, husband and daughter (30ish but just came along for the sunshine and rest) early March. The hotel is very clean and the staff are wonderful, always polite, helpful and above all else cheerful. We were given a suite at no extra price which consisted of 2 double ensuite bedrooms both with huge balconys, ours even span two sides of the hotel, large lounge and a seperate toilet/wash basin off the lounge - really impressed with the room. We woke each morning to a view of the sea and the weather was fabulous. People have mentioned before that the British people were well outnumbered - that said the entertainment was adapted for all nationalities and I was thoroughly empressed by the talent of the team. The dining room does resemble a canteen but we ate in the upper part of the restaurant and this was lovely. The infinity pool is just amazing. The hotel is too big for me to go again but it is brilliant for families and excellent value for money.

Hotel was very clean, staff friendly. The bed rooms big mainly suites consisting of bedroom en-suite with large bathroom with bath and shower. Large Lounge with TV and sofa (Room For the Children's beds if you have them) with a loo and basin off it. There was no chest of draws or anything to put any clothes in only two hanging wardrobes in the bedroom. Meals were good considering how many guests were fed at one time but noisy and children all over the place. Evening entertainment was poor. The local area quiet good for a walk but free hotel bus service to Las Americas and local bus only cost 2 euro's. Reception desk staff really good so helpful and efficient. Heated pool was a good warm temperature even after heavy rain and power cuts we had.

Room Tip: Block C 530 had good sea views and morning sun

We went for a quiet winter sunshine break, however this hotel does not tell you that it is the nordic holiday village and caters mainly for families. Absolutely choc a bloc with children, mostly ill mannered children. Kids are noisy anyway so NO peace at all, even the interior of hotels the noise echoes and there is little or no sound proofing in the rooms. Not suitable for couples unless you love kids. We spent most of our time there on the roof! The staff were excellent and deserve medals, the food was great, (could always find something to eat, we dont eat meat) but the restaurant is more like a canteen, best food in small restaurant on asian night, 8pm sitting, less kids. Rooms clean and lovely (eventually we got room on top floor overlooking sea, bliss, but we managed eventually to get moved by thompsons to a couples only resort, real bliss!)
Resort itself very small which is reflected in the hotel, it is crowded and too small for the amount of guests in it, no space. The promotional photos do not reflect its reality. It is not suitable for people with walking difficulties as I found out, as it is on a slope. I could walk down but found it very hard to stroll back up and Im not disabled. Entertainment suitable for kids. Quiet bar ok if you dont like tv which, werent bad.
Wouldnt recommend this hotel unless you like being a sardine, and own earplugs. Will never return, EVER!

Room Tip: Go to another hotel, or, if you must, room A526,527 or 528. most rooms dont get sun, mountain views...

There was no mention of massive Scandinavian kids club when we booked.
Holiday was spoilt by amount of out of conrol 0yr to 4yr old children running around restaurant and lounge screaming and crying, also parents with massive pushchairs parked for their convenience (no thought of others).
We lost count of the number of plates and glasses broken when parents went to the buffet leaving 2 year olds in charge of the table, and we were less than impressed with lack of parenting skills by some.
However, side seaview rooms were clean spacious and comfortable with good sized balconies. Shower was on the small side
Food was o.k. Staff always friendly.
This hotel is really only suitable for families.
