Holiday at this hotel for 1 week 14 - 21 december 2012 . Due to Thomson failing to inform us of ongoing work at our original choice hotel , we were moved to the Riu Buena Vista . Hotel in general was very good , spacious rooms , large balcony , well decorated public rooms , excellent staff , entertainment fair , food good but total lack of choice . However all in all a good holiday , except you are a 20 euro taxi ride from civilization . If your looking for a "flop" holiday @ a reasonable price then this hotel will tick the box

Firstly, the hotel in itself wasn't too bad, nice food, clean room, (although the furniture in my room was tatty, the finishing on the table was falling off) lots of sun beds, but nothing stood out as being special in my opinion though. My main point is that if you want a holiday where you don't leave the hotel, then look no further, because you will find it a pain to do so! There is NOTHING around the place, I felt isolated, like being on the moon, once I left the front porch it's just MILES of banana plants, no real town to walk around, unlike La Americas for instance. Then the beach is a joke, it would take about 2 minutes to walk around it, it is that small, just no "life" there at all. If they moved this place half an hours drive down the road then my score would be a bit higher. Compleatly the wrong location for me and I won't be going back.

We stayed at this hotel from 14th December until the 25th December booked with Thompson holidays. Having stayed at the Riu in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria the previous year we were only hopeful that this would be on a par - and we were not disappointed. It is as most of the previous reviews pointed out a more family orientated hotel but at Christmas this adds to the magical quality. The staff are courteous, the rooms are clean and spacious and our balcony in block C got the sun most of the day, the food is great - plenty of choice - always hot - puddings are a little repetitive but who needs pudding every day. The beach is a little disappointing - pefectly adequate for a little sunbathing (black sand of course) but a small cove and the seas are very rough so no bathing unless you are an athelete - but they do run courtesy daily buses to & from Las Americanos (a beautiful beach - great for all ages) and the sea is perfect for swimming or dodging the larger waves. Your place on the bus needs to be booked by 6pm the previous evening and you get a choice of three leaving times and three return times. On Christmas Eve the hotel had a visit from Father Christmas complete with motorised sleigh which drove around reception then down into the main social area whereupon he gave out a present to every child there. We had wonderful weather while were there in the mid to high 20's. There was a delay when we booked in for about 15mins which I couldn't quite understand as I have never had this in any hotel before. You are supplied with courtesy bottled water throughout your stay - just ask reception for replacements. There is little to do close to the hotel - even an evening walk is limited - but as a relaxing holiday this was a lovely location. The evening entertainment can be a little lame with the occasional triumph - worth a try.

I can't believe some of the moaning reviews I have read on this site. My family went from 18th to 28th December which included my daughter's birthday as well as Christmas. There was not one member of staff who was not helpful and friendly, the rooms were massive and the whole hotel was extremely clean and well looked after. The animation team were all jolly and couldn't do enough to make our holiday enjoyable. My daughter's 15th birthday was celebrated in the themed restaurant and included a beautiful chocolate cake, with a happy birthday message on it. We went to the entertainment one evening, but were content to sit in the inside bar most nights where there were various singers to listen too. All bar staff were fantastic - remembering our drinks and having a laugh and a joke with us and the kids. There were no problems with sun beds and the food was varied and plentiful. Clean towels by the pool each day was lovely too. The Christmas Gala Dinner was spectacular. The all inclusive drinks were good quality and the bar open from 10.30 to midnight each day. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel, and personally cannot wait to go back.

My family and I have just returned from four nights including New Years Eve at the Riu Buenavista in Playa Paraiso. The hotel itself cannot be faulted, the accommodation and decoration was very good, albeit it the single beds pushed together gave me a bad back, the catering and friendliness of the staff was great, but I can't help feeling that Brits are not the target audience. The kids club focused almost solely on Scandinavian children and in the restaurant, the food descriptions were in Spanish, German, French and a combination of what appeared to be Scandinavian languages, with a small smattering of English. Overall, I would describe it as a good middle of the road family hotel for Scandinavians and anyone else that doesn't mind guessing at the menu.

Room Tip: Our family room on the 6th which was almost like a junior suite was overlooking the pool from the ma...

Travelled as 2 adults and children aged 11 and 7. We arrived at the hotel on Xmas day with real trepidation having read recent reviews but we were blown away by how lovely this hotel is. We have stayed in many four star hotels over the last few years and this one definitely tops the list. Rooms are spacious and meticulously cleaned every day. Loads of room and great balcony. We were worried about sunbeds after reading recent reviews but we got up 11 am Boxing Day and had no problem finding four sunbeds together. We stayed 7 days and sunbeds were never an issue. Breakfast until 10.30am in main restaurant but til 12 in beach bar. Advertised as continental late breakfast but had bacon, eggs etc. as well. Very impressive. We had lunch at beach bar every day. Food good and lovely views of La Gomera. Good variety of food and one day chef cooked plain pasta on request for my fussy 7 year old without a frown. They really can't do more to please. Loved the fact girls could play on grass next to sea once they had finished eating while we finished our lunch. They enjoyed exploring the rocks nearby also. Main restaurant good. Bit of a pain getting table on an evening but we managed to eat outside on terrace every evening and had lovely meals. We ate at 6.30pm most evenings as sun went down early in december so we were showered and ready by 6pm. Great variety of food and plenty of child friendly options also. We ate at beach restaurant one evening also which was a nice change. Drinks at bar were very good - cava lovely(normally dreadful when all inclusive) and iced cocktails were amazing. Still water available from
Reception and self serve beer, wine, soft drinks and coffee etc. at bars. Cocktails
And spirits available all day as well. My two girls loved hot chocolate with cream. Christmas Day and New Year's Eve gala dinners were spectacular. Staff attentive and food amazing. Big balloon drop midnight on New Year's Eve will stay with my two girls forever. They loved it. We would return to this Hotel without a doubt and really can't understand what anyone can find to complain about. I am the fussiest of holidaymakers and would return without a second thought.

Stayed here 21-28 December 2012. Wanted to get away from the UK for Christmas and knew that this hotel catered mainly for families, but that didn't pose a problem for us being a mature couple (those that have submitted reviews moaning about the number of kids maybe should have read the hotel description a bit more closely....!)

This is a large hotel situated on a rocky promontory several miles from the nearest large resort (Playa de los Americas), but there is a free courtesy bus. There is a small development of shops and bars in Playa Paraiso, however, which will suit those that really must get their daily dose of UK football, papers, John Smiths etc....

Hotel was very clean, and the staff are exceptionally friendly and well-trained. Food was very varied and designed to suit a wide range of nationalities - this hotel seems quite popular with German guests who, with the Brits, seem to make up the majority.

Only real downside for us was the entertainment - it is a bit lacking, and clearly aimed at families. There is a loely nightclub facility which only seems to be used for family shows up to about 11pm, and on some nights we saw the dj playing music with nobody in the place at all! weird...!

As we were there over Christmas, there was a special menu laid on for Christmas day, and the staff pushed the boat out to provide something special - a huge range of hot and cold food, including turkey and beef carvery, even caviar for those that wanted it!

Bar service was excellent - hotel was fairly full but we never had to wait more than a minute or two to get served. Good range of drinks on the all inclusive tariff too.
