“Best home cooked food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The hogs head is a friendly, clean and welcoming hotel .All of the food is fresh and cooked in the hotel, nothing frozen everything fresh.
They cook the best Sunday roast you will ever eat. The staff are friendly and helpful we are certainly looking forward to our Christmas dinner in the week they serve for only £12-50 for a three course dinner and coffee.
I would recomend the hotel to anyone who likes fresh home cooked food .

We stopped here for 2 nights on the way from the west midlands to lincoln with visits to the peak district and Nottingham which are both very close. We had no chance to have dinner here, although it looked ver busy as we came back quite late, but breakfast was certainly very good. Everyone was friendly, the room was not large but sufficient and we enjoyed a good sleep. A bit difficult to find on the first day, as we first arrived in Awsworth Lane on the other side of the A road and could not cross and had to find our way around to the other side.

I booked a single room on the basis of other reviews and I was certainly not disappointed, I was made to feel very welcome on my arrival and the room was warm, clean and comfortable, the bathroom was small but perfectly functional. I ate in the bar and the food was very reasonably priced and far better than the offering in a lot of other more expensive hotels I have stayed at. I needed to leave slightly before normal breakfast time the following day but they opened breakfast early for me - excellent service and I'll definitely be staying again if I'm in the area.

Room Tip: Squeaky floorboards can be heard in the rooms below so maybe an upstairs room might be needed if you...

I stayed here with my Fiance for the weekend of 23-25 November for his birthday, we have stayed before and so asked for our previous room, which we got and which was as lovely as we remembered. We had a great meal in the bar on the Friday night and on the Saturday and arranged for 13 family and friends to join us for a birthday meal, the restaurant gave us our own little nook and organised a two course carvery meal for us which was great. I'd asked them to organise a birthday cake too and when it came out it was huge but went down a treat. All in all I cannot fault the staff, the food, the accommodation and the overall friendliness of the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone old or young and will definitely be staying again. They made our weekend very memorable.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior double they are very comfortable.

We stayed here whilst visiting family and found it to be very nice. The staff were very attentive and professional and we had a wonderful dinner one evening and after enjoying a meal elsewhere very much enjoyed the quiz night too. The full English breakfast was lovely and really set you up for the day. The room looked like it had been recently refurbished and was clean. Thank you for a great stay :)

Stayed here for 4 days on a recent Business trip, having stayed in the area before but not at this Hotel, and have to say I was impressed. It's a small family run Hotel with modern but compact bedrooms, the beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms ultra modern with top of the range fittings. The food in the hotel is excellent with a good menu and the restaurant has good local support in the evenings for their limited covers. I think this hotel is only going to get better and will make a point of booking again when i next have to make a trip to this area.

Room Tip: * Free Wi fi * When parking your car.....look up, make sure you don't park under a rookery!

We regularly stay here and always make this the first place we try and book at when we are over that way.

The rooms are comfortable and well decorated. Kept clean and tidy and pretty quiet.

The home made food is amazing...........just be quick it sells fast. Top tip - BOOK A TABLE!!!
They get hellish busy in here (surely the best recommendation) so you may have to wait if you have not booked.

Staff are brilliant....nothing is too much trouble for any of them we have come across so far.

A visit here is a must - even if just for a meal.

Thank you guys.

Room Tip: Book a superior room!!!!!!!!
