“Nice meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

I went with a group of friends for lunch. The menu was quite extensive and very tempting. My starter, (the only one ordered), a mushroom dish was lovely and came with bread and a salad. For mains, four of the party choose the lobster and steak dish, which was available with a salad or chip and veg. I choose my favourite, gammon, egg, pineapple and chips. My friends all said how nice their meals were and the steaks were cooked as requested and were a very good size. (I have seen much smaller steaks on their own at twice the price). My gammon was tasty, well cooked, and came with vegetables or a salad. We all opted for a dessert and all were large and tasty. We found the staff very helpful and attentive. With a three course meal coming out at about £20/£25 it is not the cheapest place to eat but we all enjoyed it and all said they would return.

I took my family here for a treat one sunday. We were told we had to wait for a table because they were busy which i can undersand. But nobody informed us we had to grab our own table as other people left. There was no organisation what so ever. All the staff were rude and looked like they dident want to be there at all apart from one young lady which was very polite and cheerful. I think her name was Heidi. When we finaly got a table and finaly got our starters they looked and tasted like they came from a cheap supermarket. As for our main well one word diabolical. Stay away your better off going to burger king or kfc.

Eaten here again today...was my local when I moved to the area and has continued to be so even after moving locally. I came on here to post a review for tripadvisor about our meal but now I feel that after seeing some peoples reviews I need to have my say as someone who has been here a few times.
Today we decided to drop in on our way back from Harrogate, we were greeted with the normal warm welcome and were asked what we would like to drink. They also asked if we were eating with them today and a tab was offered. After ordering we sat back in front of the open fire and it was a very nice touch when the landlady came over to ask us how things were as she recalled things we had spoken about when we were last in there (which was in fact a couple of months ago). Food came and as normal we had a little wait but this was due to the fact that we have always found the food to be freshly prepared to order where possible, great portion sizes as always and very tasty.
We can also offer a review on the rooms they have there as my parents have stayed here twice and we have seen the rooms which are very nice and comfortable and they told us that the service was great and they felt very much at home there and are ready planning their next stay.

Room Tip: Do not be put off by the room that says it does not have an en-suite and that it has a bathroom down...

Me and the wife went here in February and I feel the reviews are somewhat harsh, unless things have changed recently. We found the bar lady very polite and charming, the lad who served our food was also very friendly. We wanted to stay overnight but had work next day.Came here after a visit to Dewsbury market and was a lovely ride out so will be coming here again.Guest ales on too which was nice,I had a drink called 'Celtic Red' which was described as hoppy by the friendly bar lady. The day was very cold due to the snow that day(13.02)so the open fire was very welcoming.

Went with a group of friends for lunch. The interior is a bit gloomy but we were made very welcome and not rushed as we made our selections from quite an extensive menu. Food for twelve of us arrived almost simultaneously, was well presented and, most important on a cold day, piping hot. The serving staff were very pleasant. We did not order drinks and were not made to feel bad about it ! Desserts were varied and again, attractively presented.
