“Small and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Just returned form a week's holiday. Lovely location overlooking Kyrenia and the sea to the front, and the mountains to the rear. A ten minute taxi ride from Kyrenia, but if we go back we will hire a car, as there are linited facilities and places to walk in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
All staff extremely friendly and efficient, food is good, and a nice pool. We stayed in a cottage suite, which was fine, but agree with other guests that although we couldn't fault cleanliness, some refurbishment is probably due.
Good enough to justify a return visit

Tucked away halfway up a hill, you will really need to hire a car to get anywhere. Apart from traffic on the steep hill outside the hotel, (and barking dogs!), this is a quiet retreat, and the large swimming pool is nicely sheltered.
The staff are all very friendly, and we liked the way they get to know your room numbers so quickly when ordering things.
But our room was very quirky, which I guess is the kindest way to describe it. All metal furniture, which can make horrible noises across the floor. The bed was extremely hard, and there are no duvets. Some of the cupboards in the sitting room had been screwed up so they didnt open. And we had a tiny crt tv that only got Skynews, the Travel channel and one film channel that seemed to be all adverts.
But the main reason to downgrade them was the bathroom. This was tiny, and with a non power shower that dribbled very hot or very cold water at you it was impossible to have a satisfactory shower. It cried out for a thermostatic shower valve, and a good shower head clean.(and the mid level hook to hang the shower on was missing) Couple this with the typical "no paper down the loo" of that part of the world, and no bidet, and it made for a dissappointing bathroom to say the least.
Some people have raved about the food, all I can say is that they have led a very sheltered life! Plenty of it , yes, but too much fried and from the freezer. And I dont particularly like fries with rice and pitta bread all on the same plate!
But hey! we got plenty of sun, and the people were all friendly, but sorry to say we shan't be going back.

What a great holiday, The Hideaway Club is a small piece of heaven on earth. Lovely friendly staff who are always around to help. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the pool a good size with enough sun beds and towels. Drink and food is priced well. Sadly there is no where to walk to but Kyrenia is a short taxi drive away. You must try the local Gin and Galibu (Malibu). We would recommend this Hotel to all except famililes with small children. Thank you to all the Hideaway staff, local residents and other guests for making this a great holiday. Hope to see you soon x

Room Tip: Most rooms have a lovely sea view

We have recently returned from two weeks at the Hideaway Club and once again it has worked its magic. This was our second visit this year. We returned home completely relaxed and refreshed after being looked after so well by the amazingly attentive staff. Really all we had to do for ourselves was to breathe in and out! Although the hotel looks a bit tired in places, it is very clean and comfortable and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. It would not be fair to single out any individual members of staff as they all go that extra mile to ensure that your stay is just as you want it to be. We have stayed in both one of the Cottages and one of the Superior VIP suites and found them both to be very comfortable and spacious with air conditioning in the bedroom and a ceiling fan in the lounge. We will return.

The Hideaway club is in a beautiful setting with lovely views either up to the mountains or down to Kyrenia and the coast. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast is good.

The main issue here though is that the rooms, especially the bathrooms are stuck in a timewarp and could really do with refurbishing. The shower cubicle in our room was extremely small (and I am a UK size 10) and the shower head was in need of descaling.

We have stayed here twice in both a cottage and suite and found the same issue both times. A decent bathroom with a fully functioning shower is very important to us so we will not stay again until we hear that something has been done about the bathrooms. If this element is not important to you then the Hideaway is recommended.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you found the bathrooms on the small side.

Our VIP Suites have considerably larger bathrooms including a full bath. We regret that we did not have the opportunity to show you one of these Suites whilst you were here.

We hope this doesn't discourage you from joining us again as Im sure you would find the VIPs satisfactory.

Kind Regards
Guzin

We booked 10 days at the hideaway. We dealt directly with the hotel and felt we had real value for money. Our room was a deluxe room with spectacular views. The accommodation has a bedroom and relaxing sitting room plus private bathroom. The bedroom has air con and the sitting room is equipped with a ceiling fan, although the ceiling fan is quite useless in late June when it's nearly 100 outside.

The hideaway is a family owned hotel, this is apparent everywhere you look, the staff are first class's and proud to be working there and serving you. The food is excellent and reasonably priced.

The hotel is too far away from anything to walk in the middle of the day heat.

The hotel lays on entertainment several times a week, this is very good, admittedly not Celebrity, but still worth watching.

The hotel staff make it their business to learn your name and details about you, unfortunately after 5 days we received a call to say our best friend has unexpected died. The hotel were amazing, they helped us to organise flights and get us to the airport, the staff were all so very kind and the hotel wrote to us upon our return offering condolences.

Room Tip: Superior Sea View, although the sea is a long way off.

I wouldn't call this a hotel, more, as it says on the label, it's a club,- your club. I've never experienced a more personnalised stay in a commercial premises in my life. The Club itself is a 20TL taxi ride away fron Kyrenia and there is only 1 restaurant(Indian) within easy walking distance, so as you can see it's not central so if you want to be in the centre of busy and at times noisey Kyrenia forget this place and book a hotel. We like to explore wherever we visit but also want a good night's sleep and comfortable accomodation. The Hideaway fits that bill. Oxana on reception booked us a car at £20/day which was delivered and collected from the Club. The Club also arranged our transfer from Larnaca airport which went on the hotel invoice.(no need to pay the taxi driver) . Now to the customer service and staff. Probably "staff" is the wrong term as you get the feeling it's their Club. Breakfast each morning on your balcony overlooking the Mediterranean is available at no extra charge, if you go to the bar to buy a drink nobody asks you your room number to put the tab on as they already know it, a complimentary glass of homemade lemonade is brought round to your sunbed around the pool each morning, just a little touch but it means a lot. There are 5 types of room and with a big repeat business people have their own favourite room in each catorgary. We had our own favourite room(which I won't mention), which is already booked up for the whole of Sep next year! We met ex pats from the south of the island who regulary come for a weekend to The Hideaway. If I could pick a downside it would be the desserts after dinner as I thought they weren't great. Having said that we only ate in 2 out of 14 days. Overall this is a place to relax (as is North Cyprus), you can get better kitted out rooms such as at The Korineum Golf Resort, but it's soulless, relax and take in the hideaway. Thanks to all the "staff" especially Zia, Chris, tony and Oxana.
