“Good price but in need of some TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Stayed at the Graham Arms hotel for one night due to everywhere else be booked up for weddings at nearby Gretna. First impressions weren't great. Couldn't access the hotel immediately as three drunks from the adjoining pub had blocked the entrance. First room was declined as it was miniscule and had no en suite. Second was better but needed TLC. Excess mould around the window frames and parts of the shower cubicle. Poor quality mattresses that had springs sticking out the side and would have been more suited for children use. The shower needed to be run for five minutes to get anything resembling hot water. Meals were surprisingly good, although the speed that they arrived clearly showed that they had been pre-cooked and warmed up. This is not a quiet hotel, noise from the bar, courtyard where smokers congregate & when the brewery delivers kegs at 7am ensured a disrupted sleep. Staff are friendly and the room is cheap. The recession is clearly hitting places like this and the money isn't available to bring it up to scratch. Dont quite understand the glowing reports as for another £15 we had a far superior room and experience the following night nearby. If a budget traveller this hotel will suffice, however those expecting a finer experience will be disappointed.

I am sorry your stay was not to your satisfaction, the first room you saw although it is small does have an en-suite.
The room you stayed has now got a new mattress, the window has been cleaned and painted and the shower stall tray resealed.
Thank you for your comments as they help us to keep the hotel up to scratch.
Yours
Paul

My family had a lovely stay at the Graham Arms. Lovely friendly atmosphere, great food & nice clean well stocked rooms. The ideal base to visit Cumbria & the Scottish Borders. Staff went above & beyond to look after us & both they & the locals made us very welcome. Great for familys, couples or anyone wanting a good value & comfortable place to stay. We will definitely be staying at the Graham Arms again soon.

Our wedding party stayed at the Grahams Arms, for our wedding at Gretna in September, we were all made to feel very welcome. The rooms and the food were excellent, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel very welcome, especially stuart. We wouldn,t hesitate to stay there again in the future.

We chose the Graham Arms Hotel from an Internet Site and struck lucky in finding a wonderful Hotel which for us was faultless. Stuart and all of his staff could not of been more helpful even if we had been his own family. The welcome was great. The Bridal suite we were shown to was bedecked with Champagne (from freinds) and was spacious clean and imaculate with its en-suite bathroom. Flowers for the Wedding and a hair dresser for the Wedding day were seamlessly arranged. The Bar was welcoming & freindly and the Restaurant served just the food we wanted and at very reasonable prices. If this Hotel were 5 or 6 Star I would not have felt more at home but probably less comfortable.
Would not hesitate to reccomend this Hotel and to visit it again.

I stayed here for business reasons & not knowing north of Carlisle I was unsure. I had a lovely room with original features & a large ensuite which was spotless. I had a lovely warm quiet nights sleep & had a very good breakfast in a smart dining room. Service was spot on. Was able to see my car in the car park from my room & gate was locked at night. An old coaching inn which had loads of character. I would definitely recommend it as it appears solid & reliable. Thank you so much for looking after me.

25 of us stayed here for 4 nights and we are still talking about it and wishing we were still there. We were well looked after by Stuart and all the staff, food was fantastic, rooms were nice and clean. On the day of the wedding, the reception was held there and what a fantastic job they made of the three course meal we had. The room looked lovely too. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this Hotel and cant wait to go back. Thanks to Stuart and all his staff. x
