“Cozy & Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

It's very small and unique place. They are very small independent company making beers on Islay. Try it!

“Helpfully staff, some lovely ale.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

Visited here as part of day trip to Islay. Although it's tucked away (not that easy to get to if you don't have a car) if you're a real ale lover like me it's a must. Was only going to buy 6 bottles due to using the local bus service, but the owner offered to bring the bottles to the ferry port later (free of charge) so ended up buying 18!!!

“A great example of a cottage industry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

We stumbled across this and I enjoyed the tasting session provided by the enthusiastic owner to his ales. Worth the short detour to try and buy.

“Not very welcoming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

Arrived at about 11 o'clock and asked if we could have a tour as mentioned on their website. We were told "I'm far too busy for that" and turned to the young bar girl and said she had to do a job for him even though she said he hadn't been taught it. He reluctantly took us to show us the making process however was not very enthusiastic. We then could taste any ale we wanted. I chose 3 standard ales and it cost £10.50. Having then looked in the shops in Port Ellen, I could buy them for £3.05 each. Very poor that buying direct is more expensive!

“Nice for a short break from whisky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

The place is slightly hidden near Bridgend, but for anyone wanting a break from all the whisky tastings, this is a good opportunity. Got welcomed by having a taste of one of their beers. I found them myself fairly good, probably because they go down well in warm weather. You will be surprised to find that the whole brewing process takes place in a single room, taking maybe about 20 square metres. No mass production, just pure brewing that differentiates it from standard brands. Quite hard to get (capacity is after all only 45k litres per annum), so we bought two each of Finlaggan and festive bourbon (?), since for some reason they cannot sell in quantities of less than two per transaction for each brand (huh?).
