We drove from Victoria to explore Cortes Island and decided to stay at Gorge Harbour based on the great customer service we had on the phone booking, and the pictures of the pool and hot tub--it's just not a vacation unless you can lounge around a pool, right?
The campground was a bit crowded, and there were some people playing music and chatting until the wee hours of the morning, but generally everyone in the RV area was respectful and friendly. The musical groups the resort books in the evenings was a nice touch, as were the yoga sessions. . . The staff really makes an effort to please the marine travelers, the RV crowd and the families/couples staying in the hotel and cabin rooms.
The pool is a contentious issue as we had to share it with local residents, but I can see where the resort needs to balance it's role as a community partner along with the satisfaction of the guests--maybe setting aside a couple hours a day for the locals is the solution, but given the excellent lake swimming I can see where looking forward to an evening hot tub after work could be a big draw too. . .
Of course, one of the reasons to visit the Desolation Sound area is to swim in the ocean, and the temperature of the water up here certainly allows one to do that, too!
We enjoyed our stay, and didn't have any disappointments with the resort.
