Yuli's Homestay is so much more than the typical homestay. Some places just do everything right. The grounds are gorgeous. The pool was clean and fun. The breakfasts, as others have mentioned, are delicious and filling. The rooms are spacious and so much thoughtful attention was given to the details. There are hooks and towel bars where you need them, a nice cabinet in the bathroom and the bedroom has a large lockable wardrobe for your luggage and belongings. In addition to the air conditioning, which we rarely needed, there was an excellent ceiling fan. We also appreciated the drying racks and chairs and table on our porch. There are nice, intimate, breakfast nooks which lend themselves well to conversations with other travelers.
But all of this pales in comparison to the wonderful staff and to Mike's and Yuli's service and consideration. They ensured we had great transportation whether it was their driver or rented motor scooters. They had maps and suggestions ready for our exploration of the South Island and ideas on how we could best continue our travels to Flores.
Most of all, we appreciated Yuli's willingness to take time to help us understand the Muslim culture, traditions and people. We arrived on the first day of Ramadan. We were curious about fasting and the singing we heard from the multiple mosques. We had several rich conversations with Yuli, a local who has spent significant time in New Zealand, about the events and meaning of the holy month. For us, these are the special moments in our journey as we learn about new cultures. We will definitely come back to Yuli's if we return to Lombok.
The rooms are all similar and on gorgeous grounds. We stayed in both 6 and 8 and found them great.
