“Outstanding service, value and presentation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2011

My wife and I arrived travelled to The Rowallen Equestrian centre in August 2011 for a competition. WE checked the local area for hotels and there was a choice of hotels and travel lodges/inns in Kilmarnock that were reasonable prices however West Tannacrief came up literally over the road from the Rowallen centre! The price for 2 nights stay easily outweighed the journey into Kilmarnock (fuel) and time to travel as it was very reasonable (£110 for 2 nights).

First impressions were fantastic- we were greeted by the owner (apologies for names its been 4 months since our visit). We were directed to the dining room then our room respectively. A lovely homely cottage B&B stood out to us straight away.

Our room was a twin (cannot confirm if doubles are available although im sure they will be!). The room was outstanding. Very large, airy room with twin beds, tea and coffee facilities with some fantastic home made treats - better than usual biscuits this was a great touch!. We had a television with Freeview, a lovely modern en-suite bathroom was a nice touch too. Overall a very clean, modern and well equipped room wawaited us we were VERY pleased indeed!. our only very very minor point is the tv was a little small (14") this was absolutely fine and appreciate equipping all rooms with flat screens is an expensive undertaking however I think it would add a finishing touch to the rooms- but neverthless that did not detract from the quality of the room at all.

I spent some time in the room whilst my wife was off competing and then would return to Rowallen to help de-tack etc so the walk was pleasant as you are surrounded by lovely fields and cows. A great setting.

The next morning the breakfast was out of this world- there was cereal, toast, tea , coffee all available buffet style andwe had our order taken for our cooked breakfast and brought to our table freshly cooked and it was divine. Im sure there are plenty of establishments that lay on a cooked buffet style breakfast but you cannot beat (in my opinion) fresh home cooked produce and ingredients and you could definately taste the difference.

Overall we had a very welcoming, pleasant and value for money stay and West Tanncrief and would not hesitate returning or booking again straight away the next time we return to Rowallen. We cant speak highly enough of the level of service and quality this B&B presented us and as such feel they deserve our return business and that of many more customers. Thank you!

Faultless accommodation, spacious, clean and well maintained. Friendly welcome. It is in the countryside so if you are going out for dinner you will need a car (I'd suggest the Fenwick Hotel - it is really very good.)

I have no hesitation in recommending a stay at Tannacrief, especially as it is very resonably priced.

Room Tip: "The Barn" Has big double bed and also two bunk beds. Big room, views out over fields.

My wife and I stayed here while visiting friends in kilmaurs. From walking in the door you are made to feel welcome. Nancy Cuthbertson is a fantastic host and you feel as though she has known you for years. Nothing is too much trouble to her.The rooms are very comfortable and clean and there are some wonderful little touches in the rooms, her home made cakes and biscuits are a real treat. We have been converted now and this is our chosen destination for the future whether visiting our friends in Kilmaurs or indeed as a base to explore wonderful Scotland. Just got back home and we are allready looking forward to staying a West Tannacrief again. Thank you Nancy can't wait to come back and see you again. Ray and Sue McGough

Room Tip: No need for any traveller to worry as all rooms are of the same high standard. Have a treat and stay...

Four of us stayed here while visiting friend in Kilmarnock. Fantastic stay from the initial welcome through to us leaving everything was wonderful. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Home made biscuits were a lovely touch. Breakfast was chosen the night before and was delicious - never had such nice scrambled eggs anywhere else. Choice of cereals and fruits - including fresh stewed rhubarb - really good. Would recommend anyone to stay here

We were a grandfather in a room with two 12-year grandsons and a grandmother in a room with one 11-year granddaughter. This B&B was in a modern wing of an old farmhouse on a large, well-run, cow farm. Both our rooms were on the ground floor. The rooms were big, clean and modern. The shower in the girls’ room was a little weak but the facilities were modern and otherwise great. There were 3 beds for the 3 boys and 2 beds for the 2 girls. Nancy, the owner, was a widow whose husband had died young in a farm accident. She and her son now run the farm. We thought these were among the best accommodations we had in Scotland. There were cows and calves all around, which the grandkids loved. Nancy tried to accommodate our wishes for breakfast, serving me haggis with my eggs. She made us feel at home and was quite helpful in suggesting a restaurant and giving my wife her shortbread recipe, which my wife thought was the best she ever had. We really enjoyed our stay here and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Absolutely fabulous B&B set in a lovely quiet location yet so convenient to Kilmarnock, the M77 and even Glasgow. I have been on business in the area for the past year but now that my time here is coming to an end I can let the secret out!!!

Nancy is a great host and is always there to greet you with such a warm welcome. She has a good sense of humour, but don’t panic when she tells you that you are in the stable or the Byre – they are both favourites!!!

The rooms are much larger than most of the rooms you would find in a 3* or 4* hotel. They are kept spotlessly clean, with ample fresh towels, and great en-suites. They are so cosy that you’ll never need the extra blankets.

Breakfast is just fantastic. There is a great choice of cereals, fruit juices and cooked breakfast’s. The farm fresh eggs have less than 100m to travel to get to your plate!! Home baked bread and freshly made jams are real specialties – I just love the local honey.

The B&B is adjacent to the farmhouse with separate parking, entrance, lounge and dining areas, making it so easy to come and go as you please. All the rooms are on the ground floor for easy access. During the summer there is a lovely walk along the road past the farmhouse.

I have no hesitation in recommending West Tannacrieff to anyone planning to work or holiday in this scenic part of Scotland, but do book early to avoid being disappointed.
