“Perfect Outdoors & Family Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

This was such a gem! After searching and searching for over a week for a great place to stay close to Chiang Rai, Manee Dheva popped up! My husband and I went with some close friends and had our baby with us. We wanted something that was outside of Chiang Rai, as we live in a big city. The last thing we wanted was to go spend time in another smaller city...but we also wanted it to be less than an hour car ride away since we had our 8 month old (who doesn't do very well traveling by car). We checked into the place and it was beautiful - just like the pictures on their website. I would describe the place as being like the most luxurious camping possible! We had the comforts of the amazing villa, yet we were out in the middle of the rice paddies. We loved all the sounds of crickets and geckos at night also. The outdoor bathroom was such a neat addition, but note that we really love the outdoors, so the sounds of the insects were beautiful and didn't bother us. We also had no problems with mosquitos, although the bed has a large mosquito net and they even had a mosquito net for the baby cot/crib that they provided.

They picked us up from the airport, which was def. worth the additional fee for convenience. Francis, the owner, greeted us at check in and was just a bank of knowledge on the area. He set us up on a tour both of the days - the first was coffee tasting and a hike up a mountainside where coffee was growing, which was one of the best experiences we've had in Thailand. The other was a somewhat standard tea tasting, but the drive through the mountains was so beautiful and our driver from Manee Dheva was great too! The food was delicious - we ate organic meals straight from their garden, which you can walk around in, and they even helped prepare a few baby food meals for us. They were so understanding as an entire staff and it is really just hard to say in words how much we loved this place. The last day we planned nothing just to be able to hang out on the grounds a bit and sit on the back porch that overlooks the rice fields. Wow! Stunning views, which was due to the unintrusive way that the architecture of the buildings blended in so wonderfully with the land. Well done from beginning to end of our stay and such a calming touch with Francis' care and calm way of hospitality. Totallly worth it if you are searching for a place to get out into nature (and escape the diesel fumes of a city)! Highly highly recommend - we will be back!!

Room Tip: I don't think there could be a "bad room in the house." We didn't use the spa, an...

First the pros:
The location of this resort is nothing short of magical. It is so tranquil and relaxing that you never really want to leave the property. The rooms are large and spacious and very clean. The scenery in the mornings and evenings is incredibly beautiful. The spa is conveniently located right near the bungalows so that massages are a truly relaxing experience. Each bungalow has its own private deck.

The cons:
First, I would say that none of these are things that would keep me from coming back. They are mostly minor annoyances and can be easily addressed.
The restaurant was a source of utter bafflement. The restaurant offers three selections for breakfast: "American", which is not, and is truly hideous; "continental" which is equally hideous; and Thai, which is actually quite good. Similarly, dishes on the menu that stray from the strictly local Thai food are quite hideously bad. The local Thai dishes are mostly quite good. I found it quite odd that there is no pad Thai.
Another thing that baffled us is why you would have twin beds in the bungalows with the best views (and if you're thinking, "well just move them together", they are literally too heavy to move).
The internet connection can be frustratingly slow for even minor tasks. If you're planning on pulling up anything heavier than Google, bring a bag lunch... it's gonna be a long wait.
The fact that there is a pool but lounge-chairs is also a little baffling.

A lovely and much needed new addition to the boutique resort scene in Chiang rai. Very good northern food available at their restaurant. We were very fortunate to have enjoyed cool temperature and a gentle breeze passing through, which is something one may expect at this time of year in the north of Thailand.
The wide panorama surrounding the place is a definite plus.
The villa is spacious and comfortable. Very much enjoyed the hot shower that is available.
Guests can expect to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful stay here.
Francis and his team put in a lot of effort to serve the guests, well done.
I do hope that the team will maintain the quality of the people and the resort in the years to come.
Will return !

Perfect place for vocation. So much enjoying the Villa in Lanna style. The villas are located beside the small river in the middle of rice field. Experiencing relax moment in the real nature. Having a fresh air breeze all the day. Highly recommend to those who are looking for peaceful place with the fresh air in the upcountry of Thailand. It is advisable to try the northern food from the resort's restaurant (Na Kham Luang).

Stayed at this place during the new year. Eventhough the resort was fully booked, with only 9 villas it was still very quiet & peaceful. The weather was amazing with a cool mountain breeze & below 15 C at night. The resort is situated along the highway to Mae Salong, a few km past Phu Chaisai. The location was quite convenient for sightseeing around northern Chiang Rai, with Santikhiri (Kuomintang village), Doi Tung & Mae Sai quite near. Having your own car is highly recommended.
The villas are raised & built over ricefields, with a huge open air deck area. They are spaced quite far apart for privacy, and all are deep inside the resort far from the main lobby & dining building. A hotel shuttle runs within the resort. Rooms are new & very clean with a Lanna-inspired design. The food, especially the local northern Thai, is excellent. Staff are very friendly. The dining area is an open-air pavillion with a sweeping view of the surrounding rice fields & mountains beyond.
Some cons are that there isn't really any wifi connection, tv channels are very local, & the bathroom is open to the outside so watch out for bugs. But all that is expected when you go to relax close with nature. Will definitely go again.

Room Tip: Villas that are farthest & along the edge are quieter & more private

Cant say enough about this place. A real oasis tucked away among rice fields in rural mae salong area. Very nice food, try all the vegetable soups, good selection of wine and lovely surroundings. I live pretty close by and come for lunch as often as i can, never tried the lodging and the spa but by the look of things this would be great too. If i can convince the owner to install singh or leo on tap i will start coming on evenings as well. Highly recommended!

Serene environment, lovely architecture, delicious food adapted to our vegetarian palettes, quality wine, and excellent service. One can arrange transport to/from the airport, Thai-Laos border, etc., as well as trips around the area (villages, temples, botanical garden, Golden Triangle, Opium Museum).
