“An excellent getaway spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

We stayed for 4 nights in an oceanfront bungalow. The location is suberb right on the beach and made even better by the good weather we had.. Not sure how it would be if it was blowing. There are a number of cabin options, with ours being a one bedroom cabin. It was clean, well appointed and a comfortable bed. We stayed here after spending 3 weeks in the outback, and were not concerned that it is about half an hour to Cairns and about 40 minutes to Port Douglas. Palm Cove is no more than a 5 minute drive. This was strictly Rand R for us.
The lady who checked us in and out was quite friendly and helpful.
As we were paying top dollar for the accommodation, much more than anywhere else we stayed, it was disappointing that you were expected to pay for the BBQ. I believe this is an unnecessary cost. These sort of charges are not levied anywhere else we have been. It is an expensive park to stay in cabins, but is offset by an idyllic setting.
There is a bar and grill across the road, which does breakfasts and meals during the day.
Overall a great spot, just be prepared to pay.
I would have given 5 stas except for the price.

Ripper spot right on the beach, but unless the weather is great your not really close to anything else so be aware! All sites are fairly great if your camping, but beware of being wedged into the slab sites at the corner on the end, very tight. Facilities are fairly dated and its quite a hike to the bathroom (where you need to remember your code each time which seems pretty unusual these days) and we were very disappointed that we needed to insert coins into the bbq, which took $3 to cook some fish, this is probably the only park we have stayed in out of 12 that make you pay for their bbq!
Showers were good and kept well clean, nice quiet park if you want to get away from the noise.

Our return to Ellis beach didn't disappoint scenery wise but felt that after a 5 year absence things may have been upgraded but no change to be seen. This can be a good thing to keep it unspoilt but towels very thin, tv didn't work and thought feeding $3 in the BBQ to cook a few snags was a bit steep. It's a beautiful location but it would be good to keep things fresh and a bit stylish even on a budget $115 per night we like to feel looked after on our special break

Room Tip: Beach front and ask for the more modern bungalows

Having stayed here in 2005 it was a pleasure to return in 2011. I always said if I got married this would be a place to bring my wife on honeymoon... and I did. She seems to attract unusual weather as we had 40 K onshore winds for most of the week !! The first time I visited it was warm and still !!

The apartments are basic but functional but it is the beach front location that makes this place special. If you want peace and quiet with a view with dolphins swimming by in the morning sun then this is the place. Paul and the guys pulled the stops out and laid on bubbles, fresh flowers and fruit for our arrival and we were made very welcome as always.

Handy for trips to Cains, GBR , Daintree rainforest as tour operators collect from outside the park.

Yes there are campers there but its so relaxed that nobody seems to annoy anybody else.

The "shack" across the road serves basic local food, good beer and wine and offers other services also. There are communal barbies which are great fun to use and we made friends with some Ozzies that were there for a beach wedding.

We are saving for our next trip , not sure how long it will take BUT we will be back as it holds very special memories :)

Room Tip: Ask for the seafront bungalows

We stayed at Ellis Beach for the Easter Break this year with a group of family & freinds.
The Manager arranged to pick half of us up from the Airport when our flight arrived & the other half hired a small car. You will need a car from here if you plan on seeing any of the surrounds independantly. Otherwise they can organise some tours for you. The location was great and at low tide we played beach cricket, the kids thouroughly enjoyed this and other people joined in to make it a huge game. Lots of fun! The amenities were clean and tidy and the staff were very helpful with whatever we needed, especially cleaning away all the empties and seafood rubbish early the next morning. Outstanding views and a fabulous way to start each day with the views from the bungalows, we got many fantastic photos. The onsite convenience store has most items to get you by, but if you want meats/chicken etc you will need to get these from town. The Bar & Grill across the road was a good place with live music on the Sunday afternoon, it is a little tired and some bikies hang out but they are harmless. Generally grey haired bike enthusiasts. We had a great stay and will definately be returning again. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the Oceanfront Bungalows if a couple, the family ones are just slightly back from...

Stayed in campervan, took the beachside option as otherwise would back directly onto busy road. Paid the extra $6 for this. Pitch was very compact, just able to back our van in next to the slab and we only have a small van. Kitchen very basic, and needed to pay for use of BBQ etc. Amenity block tired. Expensive wi fi , and then could only be used in the office area so didn't bother. Pool was its one saving grace as stinger net not in use ( not their fault I know). All in all one of the most expensive, least value for money sites we have stayed on.

Room Tip: Middle row sites probably best value for money.

I stayed at these bungalows for the first time in Dec. 2012. My partner has been here many times over the years. Apparently the prices have gone up dramatically! The location is lovely right on the beach but, not worth the price. With stinger season, the only place with a net was a ways done the beach. The place was almost empty, and I can see why. We had to supply our own toilet and kitchen paper as not enough was supplied. The bar of soap was tiny!
I might return to Cairns, but not to this place.

Room Tip: Don't get the bungalow next to the caravan park, furthest south. You will end up with a tent al...
