“Lovely Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

The Bird's Eye View Lodge is a lovely family owned/operated lodge with very helpful and friendly staff (Verna, Leonard and Stephanie). I arranged to have Leonard pick me up at the airport and he was much more than a driver. He has an amazing eye for spotting wildlife and pointed out several new species for me on the way to the lodge and pulled over several times for me to pictures.

The lodge itself is lovely with beautiful grounds and well kept rooms; the nosegay of fresh flowers in my room everyday was a particularly nice touch and indicative of the care and pride the lodge takes in everything they do.

For bird watchers, BEV is excellent. If you are feeling lazy you can just hang out by the pond outside the lodge and count a couple dozens of species of birds that come there to feed. Or Leonard can take you on birding tour of Crooked Tree Island (either driving or just walking). He is very knowledgeable of the bird species of the area and knows where to spot some uncommon birds.

The service there exceeded my expectations. Rather than try to figure out the bus system from there I had Leonard drive me to my next stop the Community Baboon Sanctuary; he stayed with me until he was sure I had secured lodging for the night and was in good hands before leaving.

Overall an excellent experience.

Room Tip: I stayed in one of the ground floor rooms facing the lagoon which provided a nice breeze just about...

My husband and I stayed at the Bird's Eye View Lodge for two nights in April, as part of a trip with Island Expeditions. We were very impressed with the friendly staff and peaceful surroundings.
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome and at home. The bird life is amazing, and our guide's knowledge was impressive. After an excellent day trip to Lamanai, the owner/manager
picked us up at the boat and took us on a delightful unscheduled tour of the surrounding area.
We will definitely return to this gem of a place next time we are in Belize.

Bird's Eye View Lodge is an experience like no other. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable - everyone seems to know everything about the splendid birds and bird-watching, but they are also well-informed on Belizian history, politics, the cashews that grow there in abundance and so on. We sat on the terrace with tropical flowers in full bloom all around us while flocks of storks flew overhead and roseate spoonbills feasted in the lagoon. The Jabiru stork is a frequent visitor and the vermillion flycatcher as well as hummingbirds were always dancing about. We even spotted parrots! The food was delicious. We took a hike on the Limpkin Trail and meandered down the dirt road into Crooked Tree. Rooms were air-conditioned and quite comfortable.

We only scheduled one night there and wished we stayed longer. The service was amazing. The owner/manager was so helpful. She even called our airline and changed our flight for us. The room that we had on top has a common area on the water with lounge chairs. Perfect for viewing the birds. We rented a canoe and it was waiting for us when we woke up. They even set up a special mini-breakfast of fruit and coffee for us before canoeing. Then when we returned we were treated to our full breakfast. I thought the food was good and the woman who cooked and served it to us was very nice and friendly as well. They offer many tours and even horseback riding (which I wished we had time for).

We spent the last 2 nights of our month in Belize at Birds Eye View Lodge in Crooked Tree. It was superb. Great place to hang out, watch birds and do some nice walks. The staff was all excellent, the food was great and the room was very comfortable and clean. This oldest town in Belize is very quiet, friendly and has birds everywhere. Tons of storks including lots of Jabirus, herons etc etc..

Room Tip: To floor rooms have a great shared balcony.

Bird's Eye View Lodge was our first stop in Belize. The room was fine with a good shower for washing off the sunscreen and bug spray at the end of the day. The food was great, if a bit too generous in quantity.. We even had a sample of the local cashew wine.

The birding was the best. We walked the grounds every morning and evening. The boat tour of the lagoon was outstanding. The guide, Leonard, is extremely knowledgeable. He knows just were to point the boat to cross the shallow spots in the lagoon and to find the reclusive birds.

Well-located by the edge of the water in the Crooked Tree reserve, this is a nice enough place, considering it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. What really marks it out is how friendly and welcoming they all are. Good basic food served in the canteen and uninspiring but perfectly clean and functional rooms are the order of the day.

Wildlife is the big thing, and there are some good marked trails and excellent local guides. Don't miss the boat trip that goes out a long way for half a day and sees some very good stuff you can't get to by yourself.
