“Good choice for a night coming in or leaving Belize airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Nice hotel, clean rooms, cute pool, nice setting by the river. Not too much close by however with the exception of the airport, you have to leave the hotel on an excursion to see most anything. Wouldn't necessarily stay here again unless I was arriving late or leaving early from the airport but it is a good choice for a night coming or going from Belize city.

My friend and I spent a week here, and we had a wonderful time. All of the staff but particularly Justine, Ryan, Eder, Shawn, and the manager, Beverly, made us feel as if we were part of the family. They were friendly, welcoming, and took excellent care of us. We stayed at the Clarisabel. Our room was spacious and clean. We were on the second floor, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony when we returned from our tours. Justine coordinated our tour schedule for us. We were there when hurricane Ernesto struck, but we felt safe because Beverly made sure that preparations were made for her guests in case of an evacuation. They had to cancel one tour because of the hurricane. We spent the day walking around Burrell Boom because the hurricane struck farther north than expected. There are tiny convenience stores and a couple of small eateries in the town. We ate at one of them. We ate most of our meals in the restaurant at the resort. While all of the food was good, I particularly enjoyed the snapper and the local style breakfast. The resort also sold fruit wine from Belize, and we enjoyed that as well. We enjoyed watching the huge iguanas and, occasionally, the howler monkeys. Other amenities include a bar and a pool. The resort was quiet (except when the howler monkeys showed up) and relaxing.

Room Tip: Some rooms do not have refrigerators, so ask about that if you want one.

On our way to a sailing vacation and needed to overnight in Belize City. We did not want to be downtown and were glad to have the free transport to and from the airport. Totally relaxing by the pool, authentic food at the restaurant and great staff arranged for all of our needs, even providing an unplanned evening trip to Belize City and a very early transport the next morning. Unique place to stay and would definitely return.

We stayed here last summer and had a great time. The room was large and comfortable. The staff was extremely accommodating. Would definitely recommend a stay here. They will pick you up from the airport and stop at the store on the way to the resort. Buy enough snacks, beer etc. for your entire stay. It's difficult to get to a store once you're there. Be sure to borrow a canoe and paddle down the river. You'll hear and see the howler monkeys as well as lots of other wild life. They offer interesting side trips at reasonable prices. The Zip line/ Cave Tubing was a favorite.

We stayed two nights here, and were very happy with our experience. We booked our stay here based on the positive reviews here on Trip Advisor, and were not disappointed. Our room had a nice view of the Belize River. The river and grounds are beautiful, and you feel like you are out in the country/jungle. There is a charming farm across the river with cows, chickens, dogs, and a rooster that crows all day long. Easy and relaxing canoe rides on the river with a few howler monkeys sighted. The staff was vey nice, especially our driver Eder. The food was good, not great. The rooms were nice, but the beds were too hard for our liking. Doug, the owner, was very cordial and friendly. They booked our tours in advance to the zoo and ATM Cave, and everything went off without a hitch. The pool was nice and relaxing after a long day's hike to the cave.
Highly recommended!

We spent one afternoon and night at Black Orchid; it's a great location for exploring the different directions of Belize without having to stay in the city. Tony picked us up from the airport and gave us great info about the country, the owner chatted with us as we checked in. Our kids LOVED hanging out at the pool, canoeing on the river and looking for iguanas. The food was very good in the restaurant (which you have to eat in, as that's the only place around) and the continental breakfast, while sparse, was just fine.

We had the Jaguar House which was a few blocks down the road. It was a little weird and far away, probably not preferable for most people, and I killed a giant roach in the bedroom. Ick. We were supposed to stay in the Howler House which would be great for people who wanted to just lie around by themselves with a beautiful view but no amenities, but it was too far away down a ridiculously rough road for us. Black Orchid moved us with no issue whatsoever.

We left the next morning on a tour after which we headed to Ambergris Caye, but if we had wanted to base inland for a few days the location would be great.

Room Tip: Only choose Howler House if you're a honeymooner and want to sit on the beautiful deck watching...

We stayed at the Black Orchid Resort the first night in Belize, after a long trip from Phoeix AZ. The staff, every one of them, were great, and went out of their way to help us and make us comfortable. The dining room was great with good food. In fact we came back for lunch after we finished touring Belize and on our way to the airport to go back home. Even the owner made a point of visiting with us both days we were there. Wish we had known more about the great Black Orchid Resort before we came, I know we would like to spend more time there. My only suggestion is a couple of luggage racks in the room, hard to rumage around in our bags on the floor.
