We had a day in Ciudad Guzman to visit the nearby volcano, but our other tour arrangements fell through. Gerardo came to our rescue at the last minute and gave us a great trip up the mountain, despite a broken foot. The volcano itself was closed but we drove up the 'hill' next to it. From the end of the driving track it's only 1.8km to the top with views of the volcano nearby, but due to the altitude (4,000m) it was hard work, so be prepared -it was reasonably challenging, although we are pretty fit. Also much colder at the top of the mountain - around 10 degrees Celsius compared with 25 degrees or so down in c. Guzman. Apparently it is best to go in the morning as the clouds often roll in after lunch.
Gerardo was great and speaks good English. In addition to driving us up and down the mountain, he also added an unscheduled visit to the lake on the edge of town, as well as recommending where to eat and where to buy Mexican boots & other specialities. We would definitely recommend him.
