5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

This was a delightful place hosted by excellent, dedicated and helpful people. I can only imagine how much effort it must take to make it all appear as relaxed and informal as it was. The Chateau was as grand as it was homely. The decoration is a fantastic mixture of original interior, design of the period (which adds hugely to the charm) and contemporary touches. The food was excellent and was much enhanced when enjoyed in the grounds of the Chateau accompanied as it was by the delightful 'wild hen and cockerel'. The experience would have been poorer for their abscence. I would have no hesitation in recommending this venue for its charm, its location and perhaps more importantly its hosts. Well done gents an excellent week.

Have been staying in the Bergerac area all summer and went here with a friend for a one night stay. Very impressive building once owned by the Michelin family.

Our room (one of olny 8) looked out onto woods; smart, well presented room, very clean, immaculate bedding and comfortable bed. Good quality towels etc and a Nespresso coffee machine so decent coffee. Little things in the shower room needed attention, loose soap dish, showerhead would not stay upright etc, just minor niggles. Toilet one side of the bed but wash basin the other which was a problem at 3 in the morning!

Grounds mostly grass and mature trees. Swimming pool was tiny and cold but nice to sit by and read. Ate outside on the terrace; rather odd to have some chickens running about around the tables (coq au vin would stop that!!!). Very charming Spanish hosts described the evening menu in great detail apart from some surprises!! Nice food, well presented and well cooked. Wines on the pricy side. Honesty bar in the lounge.

A previous revewer said that at breakfast you look out onto the bins - strange? We also ate in the kitchen in the old cellars; buffet. Nice choice of food. No sign of the bins!!

Main communal areas they have tried to preserve the old part and shown the new by ultra modern light switches etc etc; very much shabby chic but clean; interesting to see.

We had a good time.

Hosts were very charming, polite and helpful - nothing was too much trouble! However, the place itself desperately needs a lick of paint and there was a large hole in the fabric decor in the lounge. Cheap and huge paper lanterns suggest lack of funds as does the rusty greenhouse frame with no glass! Dinner was way overpriced: I really don't call a bread bun stuffed with minced lamb "gourmet food" whilst the cheese course was MINISCULE. They need to get the wild hen and cockerel under control or away from the dinner tables. Good choice of breakfast fare, but the common refectory table was a squash and I didn't like sitting opposite to two large swing bins in the kitchen, into which one of the hosts was putting rubbish. A woman's touch is definitely needed here. Time to put the pool table which dominates the back room into the basement guys and use the space for breakfast - WITH NO BINS!

Room Tip: Avoid one which is on the top floor accessed by the narrow and steep former servants' staircase!

Dear Okeycokey,
We thank you in-deep for your comments. It is because we take seriously the comments of our clients that we improve every day to provide the best.
We are sorry you stay was just one night, checking in before dinner and checking out after breakfast,. This fact may have caused some of the non accurate things on your comments that we would like to clarify:
• The chateau was build in 1889 and, after decades being closed, in 2009 was converted in a small hotel. We agreed with our interiorist arquitect to preserve all original elements with historical and architect interest even if, as the original 19th century tapestry, have some small damages.
• Same criteria applies to the basement where a “industrial” look was applied and maybe give you the impression that needed to be repainted. The chateau is repainted every year as part of the yearly maintenance works.
• The lamps are not from paper. For more information they are the “Moare” model from the international awarded design company Santa&Cole.
• The greenhouse dates also from 1889, consequently showing abandon signs. It’s near a new and nice swimming pool and now it has been reconverted in a kitchen garden.
• The portions served in our 5 dishes menu at 39 eur are well thought so the complete menú is satisfying enough for a common person.
• We may understand that the hens disturbed your two dogs when dinning “al fresco”.
• Breakfast is served at the old chateau’ s kitchen. Being a professional kitchen is compulsory to have swing bins at sight beside the sinks, 8 meters away (!) from the breakfast table on the opposite wall.
• The pool table dominates one of the rooms because is intended to be a billiard room.
• The old servants stairs complies with all the regulations and are wide enough to be confortable for a person in normal physical conditions to access with his lugagge to the second floor.

We are grateful for your good punctuation you gave to the room, our cleanliness, the sleep quality and the location. Also for your kind words about our approach as hosts.

Please, do not hesitate to contact directly to us at chateau@lathuiliere.net if you need more information and/or if, in the future, you would like to stay at the Chateau la Thuilière again. We will try, as always, make of your stay an enjoyable one.

We were a group of 14 from Australia who landed at Chateau La Thuiliere for a week's rest after travelling through Europe. This ended up being the highlight of our trip. What a magnificent stay! Everything was perfect thanks to Jordi and his team, who looked after us so well. A big, big thank you. Go and find out for yourself how good this place is.

Jordi and Eduard, we had such a lovely stay last week. What is not to love abouy your Chateau!

Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality! You anticipate the needs of your guests so well. Such thoughtful touches like bringing al-fresco diners, blankets for chillier evening, made us appreciate you so much.

The dinners were without a doubt the most delicious I've had in France. I love the way you balance the flavours, think about the aesthetic, and that the food is not too heavy!

We loved the Chateau, and think your sense of style touches everything from the amazing out door dining area, to the industrial feel kitchen and the wild meadow by the swimming pool.

We'd love to come back!

We stayed here for three nights at the end of a two week holiday and we hardly ventured out of the grounds. Luckily for us, the weather was beautiful, so we enjoyed doing very little in the stunning surroundings of the chateau. Jordi and Edouard were very hospitable and made us feel comfortable and relaxed despite the grand surroundings. We were lucky enough to dine outdoors for two of the three nights, with five delicious courses each night accompanied by a detailed explanation of each dish and its ingredients. Breakfast was perfect too - a really good range of food to choose from. The pool was lovely and there are lots of places to sit and lounge elsewhere in the gardens too, as well as a very nice music salon inside if the weather is cooler. Although it's not cheap, it feels luxurious and therefore good value for money. We wouldn't hesitate to go back for another short stay in the future.

Room Tip: We had room number one and were initially concerned about noise given that it was next to a shared l...

A three day stay at Chateau La Thuiliere in May 2012 left us wanting to return. The hosts Jordi and Eduard are both professional and friendly. We felt immediately at ease with the house and property. Evening meals were exquisite, with the portions just perfect. The breakfasts were also excellent. Ordering a snack and a glass of rose (for a light lunch on the lawn) was one of the many highlights. To the hosts credit, as with some other Hotels, we felt no pressure at all to "vacate the premises" during the day. It was one of the most relaxing getaways we have had in quite awhile. The stars at night are stunningly clear and the proximity to Perigueux is a bonus. We would gladly return. Michael and Rick, Victoria BC Canada
