“Talkative host at a nice B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We found the Doll´s Cottage throug Road Side Tavern in Lisdoonvarna where we enjoyed a beer. The host Sean is very talkative and shared all what could have been useful for us. He gave us detailed information about a day tour throug the region and we enjoyed that very much. And by the way, we slept very well the two nights there after nice evenings in the O´Connors pub.

From the time we arrived Sean and his wife treated us as long time friends. We were offered coffee and cookies right away and taken to our room. Our room was large and cozy and very comfortable indeed! Sean was also very helpful with advice on places to see, and had it not been for him we would have missed out on many of the gems that County Clare has to offer. Sean is extremely knowledgeable on just about everything, and he and his wife were both charming and warm. We were greeted every morning by their gentle giant Johnny (dog) and he was waiting for us when we got back in the afternoon too! The atmosphere was great, the hosts were friendly and kind, and the breakfast was fantastic! It is important to note that Sean is an accomplished Chef and made quite delicious food! I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay at the Cottage and would love to come back someday in the near future!

Doolin was my favorite spot to visit while in Ireland despite the fact that it is quite small. The cottage is located several hundred feet out of "downtown" which makes for an easy walk to grab dinner and a pint or two. You can easily walk to a chip and putt course or to the harbor as well. At breakfast our hosts served a tasty breakfast and were able to provide with ample advice and directions for a day of exploring the area.

The walls are thin, the shower was meager, the internet access didn't work, there's no TV at all - but who cares? Sean was an engaging and charming host. He directed us to one of the best pub meals we had in Ireland, and mapped out a wonderful half-day of local sightseeing for us.

The breakfast sunroom was bright and cheery, and the Irish breakfast was grand. Quite conveniently located to O'Connor's pub. Bed was reasonable.

Standing on the odd Burren-esque rocks down at the tiny port, beside the cliffs of Moher, we watched a beautiful sunset over the Aran Islands while a small crowd near the pier was entertained by a local dolphin ("Dusty"?)

We stayed just one night here while on vacation driving around wetern Ireland. The rooms were clean and neat and larger than I expected. Sean was a great source of information on what to see in the area. He gave us a map and detailed intructions on what to see. The breakfast was great and his black pudding was the only black pudding I ate on this vacation.

If you want the true experience of Ireland, visit the West, and especially the village of Doolin in County Clare. My husband and I have visited Doolin twice on our 3 trips to Ireland and we will return again. Doolin is THE PLACE for Trad music. Musicians from far and wide come to Doolin for impromptu "seisiuns" that will have you crying, laughing and dancing into the wee hours. On our most recent visit we were graciously hosted by Sean Daly and Niamh Daly of Doll's Cottage, a family owned B & B a very short distance from the main road where you will want for nothing-music and drink, food, or Celtic treasures. Sean is a professional Chef who will wow you with his culinary magic, and he and Niamh will mesmerize you with their knowledge of history and everything in general. Doll's Cottage is loaded with charm, great books and magnificent views of the ocean and surrounding countryside. Not to be missed!

Everything others have said is fairly true and only bears re-emphasis. We will say that when we arrived, there was a mixup with the reservation and they had us arriving one night later and had no rooms. That said, the problem was quickly and graciously remedied by finding us another place to stay nearby for one night, and our only regret is we did not spend 2 nights at Doll's Cottage. Sean is a terrific resource for history and advice.
