“Very poor breakfast and room smelt musty”

Aran View House

May 8, 2008

Booked hotel for three nights, checked out after one nght. Room was musty, and cold,Television control did not work. The breakfast was appalling considering B&B was costing 80 euros. There was no fresh fruit :tinned grapefruit and tinned mandarin oranges. I ordered scrambled egg and smoked salmon from the menu and then i was informed that the smoked salmon was not available. When the scrambled eggs arrived they were burnt and the grilled rasher that I ordered instead of the smoked salmon was burnt and had been fried in butter. There is no lift in this hotel which is a problem if you have to carry your luggage to the top floor.I got a beadutiful B&B in Lisdoonvarna for 45 euros.

My husband & I stayed here in July 2007. While it looks promising, we wished we'd stayed elsewhere. The hotel is old, the first room we had was terrible. It smelt old and musty, the tv didnt work and when we complained they told us they couldnt do anything about it. The bathroom was like a cupboard!
We eventually requested to change rooms and while the first room had nice view out to the cliffs, the second had no view but was more comfortable. The plumbing is quite obviously old and all of the pipes vibrate and make loud noise when flushing the toilet, especially during the night. We considered not staying the second night but did, had we have had a longer stay we definitely would have looked elsewhere.
We drove into town for meals (loved the local pubs, especially Fitzys - the BEST roast chicken!)

A wonderful hotel. Excellent views and comfortable rooms. Old world charm in a beautiful setting. The hotel is 380 years old so expect some little issues but overall wonderful. The bar is unique and served the best Guinness we had on our trip. The restaurant served wonderful breakfast and dinner and the hotel was an ideal setting for trips to Doolin and the surrounding areas. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We three women stayed at the Aran View House Hotel 2 weeks ago. It could not have been a better experience. I was nervous about renting a car at the Shannon Airport and driving to it, but it turned out to be an adventure with gorgeous scenery throughout. The view is stunning with the green sheep-filled pastures and Atlantic Ocean. Our rooms were exactly as described and the breakfast was generous and delicious. The family is kind, helpful, & professional. Our favorite part was sitting in the front yard on the lawn furniture watching the sunsets. Be sure to take the ferry ride to the Aran Islands (we used the Jack B) and enjoy a day there. Go to the Cliffs of Moher. Also indulge in the seafood chowder at Gus O'Conners Pub. We've been in Europe for a month, traveling around, and it was by far the best place and experience we've had so far. This hotel has been in the family for 4 generations (soon to be 5!) and it's clear that they love the hotel and want you to as well. You will not be disappointed by Doolin, the Aran House, or the kind people in that area. We would definitely return if we're lucky enough to one day.
*They even have 2 beautiful dogs that add to the whole charm of it all!
