“Nice place, but not terribly welcoming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

We visited the Half Door B&B in September, 2013.

The location is really good. We rely a lot on Rick Steves recommendations, and according to him, there are three really outstanding music pubs in Doolin. Two of those three are about a 3 minute walk from this B&B. And the real reason you go to Doolin is for the music. So it definitely gets a five rating for location.

The room and the breakfast area are very clean and a nice place to stay. Our room was very comfortable and pleasant to stay in. The shower was a bit of a problem because there is a sign posted saying that the shower temperature couldn't be adjusted, and it was actually not very hot.

The breakfast was pretty typical, with an Irish Breakfast offered along with a variety of other things that you could have. There was sufficient quantity, and it tasted good.

I guess the thing that bothered us about this place was that we didn't really feel welcome. When we arrived, Anne came over and checked us in. She went through the things she had to tell us, but seemed very hurried like we were keeping her from something that she would much rather be doing. This was the only B&B that we stayed in on the trip where we felt unwelcome. The attitude was perhaps a little better the next morning, but she was still a bit distant. We made sure to get to know the hosts at every B&B on this trip, but in this case, Ann is a bit of a mystery to us.

the rooms were fine. The location was wonderful. the breakfast was wonderful (have the porridge!) there is a restaurant, several pubs with great music, and a few smaller places to eat within walking distance. But mainly the music is great! that is what you are here for. When you park your car at the B&B, you are parked for the night, with dinner, music, and beer/whiskey wihtin a block!

Room Tip: any room would be great. this is a crossroads in a rural area.

This was our first trip to Ireland, and Doolin was our first stop on our trip. Doolin offers "trad" music at the pubs - go early to get a good seat, and enjoy a chat with the locals and a great meal. It is close to the Cliffs of Moher and the Doolin harbour is very picturesque as well. The Half-Door B&B was so wonderful. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast amazing, Our hosts very gracious and helpful. Don't miss Doolin on your trip to Ireland; and definitely give the Half-Door a try.

If you are in Doolin, you should stay at the Half Door B & B! They hands down had the best shower in Ireland! Perfect temperature and water pressure, spacious too! How refreshing! The location was great too, walking distance to the wonderful Doolin Café and a couple fun pubs.

We also had a flat tire the morning we left so the owner's husband was kind enough to put our donut on for us and direct us to a wonderful man that patched our flat and we were on our way! We were so thankful!

Doolin was one of our "unplanned" stops and according to Rick Steves, shouldn't be missed! We stayed at the Red Door just before St. Patrick's Day on our honeymoon. They had just reopened from the winter. The accommodations were just right for us, although we were cold, and didn't realize there were extra blankets at the foot of our bed!
Yes, the shower was small yet the Half Door was clean and tidy, great breakfast and Doolin is the home to some of Ireland's best music! We had a great supper just a walk to McGann's pub!
Would love to stay there again!

We had a lovely stay. The house was spotless and we had a great home made breakfast every morning. There was good pub food within walking distance for dinner, and we were within an easy drive of the Cliffs of Moher, boats to Dun Aengus and Bunratty Castle. Very enjoyable.

This B&B offers minimalist accommodations for those on a budget. Located near several pubs and restaurants and a couple of miles form the Doolin Pier if you plan to cruise to teh Aran islands.Cliffs of Moher are nearby, as is the Burren, About 1.5 hours from Galway.

Room 2 is on the first floor and overlooks the garbage cans. It can get smelly if you leave the window open.

No TV in the rooms, TV in sitting room was smaller tube type. Breakfast was fast and well cooked.
