We decided to try Ndol Streamside Thai Villas because other places in the Khao Yai area were either fully booked, too expensive or just plain ancient. We were not disappointed. Our stay at Ndol, though brief as it was, was a refreshing break close to nature.
Situated only about 7 kilometers from the main highway, Ndol is within an easy 2-hour drive from Bangkok. It is a beautifully landscaped place with plenty of trees. Being owned by one of Thailand's top advertising personalities, the resort reflects the guy's fine taste in design and decoration. It has an interesting mixture of Thai, Chinese and western influences - following today's design trend of blending different styles of various periods to create a harmonized whole. Replica and genuine artwork can be found throughout the property. A flowing stream next to the resort and tropical birds chirping complete the back to nature experience. There is no better place to have breakfast than with a pool on one side and a stream on the other. Marvelous.
The service is excellent and charming. The staff seemed relaxed and comfortable in the surroundings. I guess there is not a lot of pressure as most guests venture out during the day anyhow.
The rooms are of moderate size, with a nice LCD TV and DVD player. They do not have a living area as such, but you can easily lounge around the common area outside reading magazines. The shared bathroom for two guestrooms was a drawback, however. I suppose such a layout is better for couples or single families rather than multiple families who prefer en suite bathrooms. The rooms also do not possess the finer details like a refrigerator, free drinking water or tea and coffee facilities, which are essential items since you are basically living in a forest. Perhaps the resort can elevate the substance side to match its style side.
Overall, Ndol is a convenient getaway from Bangkok. Next time we shall stay at the resort longer and just chill.
