“Awesome b&b”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

Riverside Mill is the most stunning b&b we have ever visited. 10 mins from the motorway takes you to a haven of tranquillity and a warm welcome from Martin and Heather. Amazing scenery and wildlife, comfortable and spacious room, and top notch breakfast. Definitely will pay a return visit.

Riverside Mill is secluded, peaceful and tranquil and is a wonderful place to relax. The hosts Heather and Martin are so friendly and helpful. They have clearly put a lot of time and effort into making this somewhere that you will want to come back to again and again. We certainly will. The room, the bed, the ensuite bathroom and cupboard space are all exceptionally spacious. Very, very clean and beautifully decorated. It is only a 20 minute drive into the nearest main town of Dumfries. Heather cooks a great breakfast. All in all, a great place to stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms are fantastic - Heather showed us around the other rooms.

This was our second time back and what can we say other than this is a real find in the B&B world. Gorgeous setting, friendly welcome, lovely breakfast and immaculate rooms. The real treat was seeing the red squirrels in the morning.

Booking this B&B was a great shot ! Heather and Martin gave us
a very warm hospitality: they provided anything we need, ranging from
fishing suggestions to car tyre problem fixing.

Location is fantastic, taking advantage of a wild and luxuriant nature: a lot of birds flying over the river, red squirrels on the trees and if you are like you may see otters too.

Breakfast at Riverside Mill is a must ( anyone from 5* hotels reading this review ?
If yes, please come and learn how to make a customer happy): tasty and juicy fruit (blackberrys picked up by Martin), excellent marmalades, crisp bread.....and....I stop here since I start feeling like the "Pavlov dog".
Our room was comfortable and beautiful, well equipped, nice bathroom, Led Tv.

What else ? ....Looking forward to go again.....

If Carling did B&Bs they probably wouldn't get anywhere near this one.! We have just returned from our fourth visit to Riverside Mill and will be going back before the end of the year. We stayed for three nights this time and had perfect weather for all four days. The double room has been extended since our last visit and is now absolutely phenomenal with the extra large king size bed, walk in wardrobe and huge en-suite etc. Heather and Martin were, as usual, the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. They arranged the salmon fishing for us but unfortunately couldn't arrange for the fish to co-operate so we returned empty handed yet again. We saw loads of fish but were unable to upstage Martin's best catch so far this year. Next time! The outstanding memory of this visit would have to be sitting on the terrace at dusk, having a glass (or two) of wine and watching a heron fishing less than twenty feet away or possibly the sight of a very large salmon leaping totally clear of the water just upstream from the Mill. We didn't see the otters but the red squirrel put in his usual breakfast appearance.
This has to be the best B&B in the world with regard to the owners, the setting, the food and the comfort. The peace and tranquility has to be experienced to be appreciated.

Wonderful welcome, great room, super bed and delicious breakfast. It was a pity that we were just having a stop over on route from South Wales to the Shetland isles. It is definitely a place to stay for longer. The location is stunning adjacent to the river, with wildlife close at hand. Don't forget to pack your camera.

We used the Riverside as a stop over on our way to Fort William and having stopped the night before in a rather disappointing venue we were so glad we had found this.Everyone on the reviews refer to the owners Heather and Martin which gives an indication of the personal service you will receive at this venue. We had a splendid walk along the river bank trying to find the king fishers feeding as reported but had no luck but the peace was enough reward. The Red squirrels that popped into feed with the various other wild life made for a wonderful experience for us coupled with the fine accommodation as has been stated one night is not enough. We even had an education in whiskey which is handy when your on your way to the whiskey capital of the world
-- if you get a chance treat yourself stay and say high to Heather and Martin you wont be sorry.
