This is one of those places that could be wonderful but falls a long way short. We booked a superior room with views of the sea and Vesuvius. Wonderful view. The room was immaculately clean, but small and old fashioned. It may have been five star when first fitted out, but certainly not any more. Breakfast was ok, but nothing special. Service was very much hit and miss. In the pool area, there was no service at all. If you want a drink you have to get up and pick up a phone. You then wait an eternity for a waiter to appear. They think they're wonderful. They are certainly not. Wake up and smell the coffee. There are far better options on the Amalfi coast. When we were there, it appeared that most guests were British or German, and those we chatted to seemed to be underwhelmed also. If they're not careful, they could quickly lose all those pounds and Deutschmarks ! Shame, could be great.
