This hotel is reported to have been built on the ruins of an ancient Roman Villa belonging to Cicero who was a Roman Poet/Politician. At some point after that, it was a convent and then later a hotel with the most recent renovations occurring around 2005-06 when it became the Grand Hotel Angiolieri. Are there a few imperfections? Yes, the pillows were a little hard and internet a bit spotty but, the view from the terrace, pool and our room erased any such tiny imperfections -- from my mind anyway. The food at the Michelin Star Restaurant, L'Acconto, was of fine quality (although perhaps a bit overly complex for the sake of being complex to prove the Chef's artistry - he is excellent enough to not have to try so hard) and the presentation even better. The service was attentive and entertaining, especially for those who are foodies. Each dish was described to the last ingredient and we enjoyed the discussion with our service staff, including the maitre d', sommelier, and two handsome waiters, all of whom who spoke serviceable English and managed not to cringe outwardly at my Italian. I am so sad to now be home because this was truly like looking down from the Heavens.
