“Spectacular setting over-looking the Bay of Naples and Pompei”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

A beautiful hotel, particularly the sea-view room with balcony and spa bath - all very tastefully decorated. The landscaped gardens and restaurant terrace are perfect for an evening drink. The pool was not in use when we stayed, a disappointment at first but actually the weather was a bit on the cool side for sun-bathing although it was sunny.
The town of Seiano is small but well connected by train to Naples, Pompei and Sorrento from where you can get a boat to the island of Capri - all excellent day trips. The station is a bit rough looking and covered in graffiti but very cheap and the most convenient way to get about. As in any tourist area I would hang on to your valuables but we didn't have any problems with security. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful and gave excellent suggestions for restaurants etc. The michelin starred restaraunt at the hotel is only open during high season and the food is amazing but expensive. There were two other very good restaurants down at the harbour.
We were encouraged by the hotel staff to take a taxi trip along the Amalfi Coast which seemed a lot of money, but well worth it and much better than taking a coach trip or public bus. Our taxi driver got us into all the best car parks for exploring each coastal port and had lots of local knowledge and stories in his broken english. He put on the "old-croners" tapes of Sol e mio and even serenaded us whilst skillfully negotiating some serious hairpin bends as only an Italian driver could!
Will definately go back!

Room Tip: The named rooms with balcony are definately worth the extra money.

Great location, 20 mins by car from Sorrento and from Pompei and 40 mins from Positano.
Nicely decorated with excellent baths, lovely tiles. Impecable service, not much in the restaurant specially during breakfast which by the way is absolutely delicious and abundant.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your kind review left on this website. The strategic position of the hotel is a good starting point to reach from where you can reach all the interesting sites of the peninsula. We feel sorry you did not have a positive impression of the service during the breakfast. This will be for us an issue to discuss and forward to the management in order to improve this service, which should always be 5 star level. Looking forward to welcome you again, we remain with

Great service, a wonderful dining experience (excellent / superb food and a spectacular sun set with a view on the Bay of Naples and the Vesuvius) ... what an experience. The hotel staff was always smiling, available and ready-to-help ... you feel a sincere interest in the needs of their guests without 'over-doing'! Thanks a lot for a great holiday in Seiano.

We chose the Angiolieri mainly based on previous reviews and on its ideal location close to Sorrento but isolated anough to be peaceful. And we were not let down on location - it was ideal. Close to the train station where there is a train every half hour to Naples or Sorrento, stopping at every station en route, and close to a small marina where there are a number of good restaurants. The marina is a ten minute walk downhill (plenty of steps) but a steep climb back - we would recommend timing your meal to return via the hotel shuttle which is very efficient but not very regular.
We were in one of the superior rooms with a view over the bay - small but not cramped.
A lot has been said praising the staff at the Angiolieri, and it is more than deserved. Without exception, they were all helpful, efficient and smiling. From arrival to departure they ensure your stay is as pleasant and trouble free as possible.
So all in all the perfect hotel? Not quite.....
Mention was made by a previous reviewer of the pillows. If you can imagine sleeping on sandbags you wont be far off. We asked if they had soft pillows after the first sleepless night and reception said they would see what they could do. Nothing materialised, so it appears there is no alternative. To say that they are the norm in Italy is fine if you live there, but not if you are a visitor. Most five star hotels offer a range of pillow types, the Angiolieri chooses not to.
Also, most five star hotels (including those in Italy) offer a choice of eggs at Breakfast. In fact nowdays most five star (and some four) hotels cook your eggs or omelette to order in the dining room. All you are offered at the Angiolieri is scrambled egg, When I asked for fried eggs I was told they would cook them, but it would cost extra!!! For a five star hotel that is entirely unacceptable.
And food also provided the only other annoyance during our week - on one day there was a wedding reception at the hotel as a result of which there was no food available in the bar that evening as "the chef was too busy". Again, not acceptable for a five star hotel.
So although we had a relaxing break in a lovely part of Italy we would think twice about returning to the Angiolieri. Its a lovely hotel, bright, modern interiors, clean and relaxing. But the pillows would be anough to deter us, and breakfast would be the decider.

Dear Mr. O’Connor,

Thank you very much for your kind review left on this website. We thank you as well for the kind words spent about the staff, the location of the hotel and its strategic position. We feel deeply sorry about your troubles regarding the pillows; actually, we must admit that this is still a lack of this year’s services offered. We are organizing a range of pillows for the guests, service that will be active in the very near future, because, as you said, depending on where the guests come from and on their habits, our pillows turn out to be too hard and therefore they do not assure a comfortable sleep. Furthermore, referring to the eggs, the general manager gave us precise instructions, including that extra eggs are extra. At the end of this season, according to our guests impressions, including yours, we will discuss and check if there will be any changes on this issue. We really want to remain in touch with you, and look forward to welcome you again, in order to organize the perfect vacation for you and change your mind.

Warm regards.

This is a world class hotel at cheaper than that prices. The location is superb, 1 hour from Naples airport by the Sorrento coach, with a request stop at Seiano, 100 yards from the entrance to the hotel. The hotel is a five minute walk from the local train station which serves Pompeii, Sorrento and Naples if you wish. Despite the good transport links the hotel is very peaceful, perched on its own cliff edge.
The sea views over the bay of Naples and vesuvius are unforgettable. The pool is clean, sunny and not too busy.

The staff are incredibly helpful and there is a little shuttle bus that will take you to the little harbour in Seiano, where in peak season a direct ferry to Capri runs. (14 euros each per leg.) Luciano runs the outside bar, and makes a superb cocktail.

Breakfast is luscious, with five types of cake freshly baked and warm pastisserie served with coffee. The restaurant is very good for a hotel restaurant, and probably deserves its Michelin star - the chef is technically very accomplished.

The superior double room is well worth the money for the private terrace and sea views. We would definitely consider coming back.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel for my sister's wedding in June. It was an amazing venue for such a special occasion.

We only stayed for two days but during our time there the staff were incredibly welcoming and couldn't do enough for us.

The hotel has amazing views and was everything you expect for a 5 star hotel.

Hello,

This was our 3rd time to Grand Hotel Angiolieri and due to the excellent service and facilities we decided it would be an ideal location for our wedding.

We got married on Saturday 25th June 2011 and it was a perfect day made even more perfect by the wonderful staff at the Hotel.

I was a little concerned when we first decided to get married in Italy, as neither of us spoke a word of Italian and I was concerned I would not be able to organise what I wanted but thanks to the staff at the Hotel, who helped me every step of the way, it was easy.

I got more than I could have hoped for, the flowers were beautiful, the tables were arranged perfectly, everything about the Hotel was stunning and all the guests kept commenting on how much of an amazing venue it was to have a wedding.

We started off our wedding at the Amphitheatre for the cocktail reception which was beautiful, the drinks were flowing, music playing and the view was spectacular.

We then moved into the Banqueting Room which was set out beautifully, I gave very little input to what I wanted for the tables as I did not have a great deal of time, what with all the guests arriving but the staff took care of everything and I was so impressed with the tables, they were perfect and the attention to detail was amazing and I will be forever grateful to the staff for caring so much about our wedding to ensure it was special in every way.

We then ended the evening in the Roman Arcade and danced the night away, if was the perfect end to a perfect day and we even saw a fireworks display in the distance.

I cannot stress enough on how grateful I am to the staff for everything they did to help us on our special day.

My husband and I will be returning and look forward to seeing everyone again, we were made to feel so welcome and treated so well, all our friends and family were also treated exceptionally well and I am sure they will also be returning for a holiday.

I would recommend this Hotel to everyone, it is such an amazing place for a holiday and a wedding.

Dear Helen and Ed,

Thank you very much for your beautiful review on this website, and especially for choosing our hotel for the most important day of a couple’s life. Your wedding was an event to remember, with kind, polite and refined guests. The ceremony was an exclusive mix of informal joy and professional service; nevertheless, we really hope that our service matched your expectations. We really look forward to welcoming you again, maybe to celebrate your first anniversary at the same place where your wedding path has started. The whole staff send you warm regards.
