“Best "romantic getaway" close to Lisbon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

The hotel design and service are both 5* plus. In terms of service, it was flawless and started by them getting every bag directly from the car to the room.
We stayed in room "Ouro", which has an amazing design with a great mixture of modern and classic furniture and is very romantic. This room has an external, totally private, jacuzzi which is great for day or night relaxation.
The beach is also just at 5 mts. walking distance (although one has to walk through dunes and steep stairs).
The food in the hotel is excellent as well, with products from their own bio agriculture and serving hours are very flexible.
If you want to eat outside, we suggest nearby "Vela d'Ouro" with local food and great price/quality ratio.
One thing to watch out is the weather especially in non-summer time. Although staying inside is an option (the rooms have gret fire places), oustide it might be cold, misty and windy.
We will come back for sure!

Room Tip: In suumer, choose one of the rooms in the corners, with an outside jacuzzi. _Choose room "Ouro...

This is probably one of the best small seaside hotels in Southern Europe at present. We rate it on par with Aman Resorts and belive Adrian Zecha would have been proud if it was part of Aman chain. it has the same tranquility, eco-elements, lots of space and beautiful location as Amans yet it is different in a positive sense. We loved the beautiful ultra modern pool villa which we rented with our family, the walk to their secluded beach via dunes covered with unqiue vegetation, secluded and almost empty cliffside beach and laid back yet beautfully designed lobby and ajdacent restaurant space. The food menu is very simple, full of local elements - we loved fish, starters and fresh eco-juices served during breakfast time. Our children loved visits to their private vegetable garden, mussle picking during low tide, chocolate cookie making lesson and the private cinema space with large selection of DVDs. Last but not least we would like to complement the wonderful owners and the staff who were extremely friendly and approachable - the owners organise a fireplace in the evenings and invite guests and sing local songs !

We cannot think of any negatives of our short stay there and look forward to return. For other travellers considering Areias do Seixo we would suggest bringing some warm clothing as it is quite windy even during summer months here. Lastly this is not an inexpensive place and they make your bill the Aman style i.e. you do not sign anything during your stay and they present you with the final bill at check out hence prepare a lot of available room on your credit card on your departure however we find the value worth the money !

I have wanted to visit this highly recommended hotel for some time. It is quite difficult to get a booking to eat in their restaurant as it is a small hotel and it is often fully booked. When we arrived there was a note saying that they were only taking people who had pre-booked so don't expect to eat here without ringing in advance. It is a long journey off the main road so it is obviously meant for people who want to get away from everything rather than people who like to be near a few attractions. The hotel is very small - only 14 rooms - the main apartment block behind the hotel is not part of the hotel at all. We loved the decor and the view - it has all been beautifully designed and decorated. The spa looked lovely. We were unable to see any rooms or the greenhouse (used for parties) as the hotel was full. We had a relaxing lunch (we were the only people eating) in the pretty dining area. The food was good - the starter was excellent with delicious mushrooms - everything else was fine but expensive. It was nice to see vegetables from their gardens being used in the meal.

It is unusual for a hotel.

It has a few rooms (large, with a fabulous view overlooking the sea that, combined with the jacuzzi candles call in the romantic weekend atmosphere), and many common areas where we feel at home, allong with a large staff always genuinely friendly and available.

The sort of eco-hippy of the hotel creates less pleasant details: there is no air conditioning in the rooms. There is also no television (whose absence was not felt).

It has free wi-fi, what is always nice, and each room has an ipod touch with soundtracks according to the environment.

The heated outdoor pool is very pleasant and because of the low capacity of the hotel, there is always room for everyone.

The major con is its price, otherwise I'd visit it very often!

I'm really not exaggerating when I say that the room I stayed in (Terra) is the most beautiful room I've ever stayed in (all the rooms are different and beautiful too). The bathroom was gi-nor-mous.

The location of the hotel is in a nice enough spot. It's a short walk through the gardens where they grow their fruit and veg, to a cliff and a secluded beach. The architect has done a smart job of blocking out the slight suburban sprawl near the hotel. When you're there you feel miles from anywhere (and it is - Lisbon is a good hour away).

But really coming here is all about the hotel and getting away from it all. It has a few eco touches (which I like) and it is a little bit hippy (which I don't normally like as much) but somehow I think the good intentions of the owners mixed with the high style make it a good mix of being laidback and luxurious. It's normal, not poncey here and there's no 'yes sir madam' deference like you get at Aquapura (which I went to later in the week). The owners are hands-on and everyone who works there makes you feel at home.

I don't normally spend this much on a hotel but I really think it was worth the money. I wish all 'luxury' hotels were like this.

Room Tip: The land rooms (their cheapest rooms) are huge... Terra was beautiful.

My husband and I spend 4 magical days at this hotel. As previous reviewers have mentioned, it's architecturally stunning. It's obvious that the owners aimed for a seamless blend with nature and the surroundings and they have achieved this. From the moment we arrived we were treated like old friends. I must admit, it took me a good 2 days to fully relax and come 'round to their way of living and service but this is not a reflexion on the staff/hotel but rather on the hectic pace of life in London. For instance, there's no hard and fast rules on when to book dinner, lunch etc. Just show up when you feel like it! Breakfast is served till around 10am which is great for a lie-in. There's no lunchmenu which I found odd initially but only because I'm used to the set "rules" and order of a "normal" hotel. Instead, tell them what you're in the mood for and they'll make you something delicious. Evening meals- again no menu as such. The waiter will tell you the dishes of the day and let you decide on one. Again- seemed strange initially but we soon came 'round to this relaxed approach. Don't go on a tight budget though as with no menu there's also no price. We didn't ask- found out the total bill for total stay when we checked out. We tried several Portuguese wines as recommended for us- all delicious. It's worth mentioning that all the fruit and veg is grown in the hotel's vegetable garden and all organic. Hubby and I ventured down to the beach one day and had a snoop around the veg garden. The lovely gardeners invited us in and we had a nibble of the fresh strawberries- YUM. Speaking of yum- a HUGE thank you to the lovely lady who baked the surprise cake for me, it was absolutely delicious. Such a shame we forgot some of it there when we left.

The rooms are stunning. They are all unique and I'm already planning our next trip to try a different one. We stayed in Prata and the bathroom had me speechless. There's no mini bar or tv in the room and although I did miss the mini bar aspect, it would have ruined the whole look of the room and it was absolutely fine for our short stay. I can imagine it being a bit of a issue for long stays though. Hubby and I had a back and shoulder massage in the spa and it was lovely. Next time I'm booking two! I left feeling relaxed, at peace and with some amazing new music on my iphone- I forgot her name but we chatted for ages, thanks for all the recommendations!!

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Room Tip: They are all amazing!

You have to admit some parts of this hotel are stunning, but we felt it tried too hard to be cool and different, that it lacked atmosphere and comfort. The rooms are interestingly designed and a good experience, for some reason the place didnt click with us, we just didn't find all the concrete and lack of comfy seating like on the terraces very relaxing. We were told the pool was heated which was part of the reason we decided to stay in April, but at 17 degrees this wasn't warm enough so we were dissapointed we couldn't swim.
The food is ok, but for 5 nights it would get boring, there is nothing local and you need a car.
For the price of the rooms we expected more variety for breakfast, nothing cooked on offer, we had the same selection of breakfast every morning.
Worth a visit for a couple of nights, or when warm enough to enjoy the pool.
